Col. 2 Ch 9: Not All Mad Scientists Wear Labcoats

A couple of days after the visit to Chez Lockheart has revealed little about domed villages. There's nothing in any of the world maps, even ones a thousand years old pointing out where it could be.

But, be that as it may... Coop and Sarah are woken up in the middle of the night by a vision of a room with dozens of images of the city's central pyramid, and what looks like schedules and guard IDs. Something akin to John Malkovitch's apartment in In the Line of Fire, but pyramid stuff instead of Clint Eastwood. The city seemed worried.

Bianca simply had bad dreams and a general feeling of dread, being new to the business...

That morning, the phone rings at Coop and Sarah's apartment and Bianca checks into work, seeing Rozatonosky on the phone and Eleutheroi there with him.

Coop awoke to the ringing of the phone and groggily sat up to look over Sara at the clock. He groaned as he rolled away from his arm around her snuggled in tight and picked it up before it could ring again. Rubbing his eyes with his other hand, he answered with a, " Hello?"

[Mierin]

Sarah stifles a groan when the phone rings, still tired from being woken up in the middle of the night because of the vision. Snuggled in close to Coop, she remains quiet as he answers the phone, she thinks about the vision, trying to figure out what the city was trying to tell them and what they have to do.

Walking in, Bianca sees Rozatonosky is on the phone and so she remains quiet so as not to interrupt and moves to stand next to Eleutheroi, trying without much success to keep her face from looking curious.

(Both sides, except Sarah who isn't psychic and can't hear what Coop hears)
"This is Rozatonosky. Eleutheroi has put our attention to an apartment and the police inspection has revealed something. Please come to the Guild as soon as you can." And he hangs up.

(Bianca)
Rozatonosky turns to the Elf. "You'll have to explain how you know about this."

The Elf shrugs. "Think of me as the interdimensional traffic camera." He says. "Same principal, really."

[dakota]

" K, be there shortly." Coop replied and hung the phone up. He rolled back and drew Sarah tight enough so that he could tickle her without her escaping or fight back. Releasing his hold, he rolled out of reach and onto his feet," Time to go to work, sleepyhead." He chuckled as he started to get dressed.

[Mierin]

Sarah mumbles "I doan wanna." Pulling the covers over her head, she tries to go back to sleep as Coop gets dressed.

[dakota]

Coop grabbed the blankets and pulled them off, hard. Then he took Sara's ankle and started to drag her off the bed. " Kick and scream if you want, but we have to go. That was Rozatonosky. He and El found something."

[Mierin]

Sarah sighs and gets up with minimal dragging from Coop. "You'd think that now that you're a slayer too, that'd mean I could get a day off every now and then." Sarah then smirks, revealing that she is only teasing as she grabs some clothes and heads to the bathroom for a quick shower before they head out.

[dakota]

" If I have to go, then so do you." Coop replied. then a thought came to him and he grinned. once he heard the water running, he snuck into the bathrrom and quickly undressed. As he slid in past the shower curtain, he said suggestively with a grin," They only said as soon as we could, not right away."

And the pair arrive at the Guild very soon after since they both have a very strong sense of duty and understand that there are times to fool around and their are times to fulfil their birthright. This is the latter.

"Oh, good." Rozatonosky says. "You're here."

Eleutheroi looks around. "Ah, Bianca, we may need your help for this one." He says, heading into a meeting room with the others.

[dakota]

" Yeah, we're here." coop wasn't overly enthused about a missed opportunity, but covered it up," The city was at it again last night. We gotta figure out what the visions mean. Anyways, what's the emergency?"

[Mierin]

Sarah was just as disappointed by the missed opportunity, but tries to focus on the task at hand as she waits to hear about what was discovered.

Bianca eagerly follows into the meeting room, trying to avoid rubbing her eyes. She listens carefully.

Rozatonosky tosses a Holothingie^tm into the middle of the table. The room dims (Eleutheroi at the switch) and the Holothingie^tm bursts into a dark room, with the walls plastered with pictures of the Pyramid in town, from every angle.

Now, as everyone knows (even if the players don't immediately understand), Golthreia is a decidedly magical city. It is common knowledge that the magical pyramid in the centre of the city powers all the magic coursing through it, running the waeather in the lower levels, the water, sewer, air, everything except the stuff people use electricity for, which is powered by a hydro dam near Land's End. When magic started to disappear in the city, guards were placed around the pyramid to make sure no-one would draw away the city's life blood. Even on a nexus like it is, there's barely enough power to run the city.

It is the worst kept secret about national defense: you destroy the flow of magic, you destroy the city.

Hence, and potential threat to the pyramid is taken very seriously. There's a small legion always guarding it, the way we jealously guard our Mountain Dew and cold pizza... Well, more jealously.

"The tennant of the room was tracked by Eleutheroi as an unauthorized dimensional traveller." Rozatonosky. "And pursued by out immigration authorities. Luckily, he vacated his rooming house rent in a hurry and left a lot behind. Among them these pictures, and some semblance of the guard schedules."

As the holo-room rotates, Rozatonosky continues. "There does not appear to be any inside job here. The schedules are informal, and the images are a mix of arial post cards and covert shots."

After a second the image disappears, and the room lights are up again.

"And he did this very quickly." Eleutheroi said. "I only sensed his arrival a couple of days ago."

"He?" Tobrias asks from the door. "This isn't a demon?"

"No. Worse." Eleutheroi says. "He's a Shifter from Earth. The torn one. I already have a call to the clan to track what they know about him, but I doubt it will be much. And I'm pretty sure our dynamic duo over here knows what the city thinks about it." He says, handing the floor over to Coop and Sarah.
