Cabal let Rhys' slip in protocol go until he settled in a little more with his new squad and figured out how they operated. he was still a junior officer and wasn't keen on such informalities as being referred to by name, but he knew protocols tended to get thrown out the window out in the field as well.
he didn't really expect his rank to carry much weight among humans either, and things were likely to run fast and loose so he let it drop for now. he looked to Sam to be the tie-breaker. "so what's it gonna be el-tee? you say lose it and it's gone. your call."

Towards them walked a weaselly looking man with officer pips on his collar. " Greetings, don't salute, it encourages snipers. I'm Major Quinton Marshall, commanding officer here. I'm assuming you just arrived." The name rang a bell to Sam, and why was apparent when Shep rounded a corner beyond the Major. The look on his face was priceless as he about faced midstep and doubletimed back the way he'd came.
the major looked at each of the squad, then passed them," I was told that Carson Trassk was part of your squad. I was hoping to catch up for old time's sake." He grinned, but there was nothing pleasant about it.

Rhys caught his salute that he was about to make and instead turned it into adjusting the duffle on his shoulder "You just missed him, Sir. He went to secure accomadations for us"

Sam nods at Cabal. "Cover it up for now." she replies. "It is a good idea to hide your advantages from the enemy."
When the Major arrives, she nods to him in greeting, keeping a straight face but laughing inside at Shep's reaction and subsequent running away. "Shall we get things started, sir?" she asks

" Yes, of course. Do you have your orders with you?" The major asked, eyeing Cabal still wearing his bucket. " You afraid of fresh air, soldier?"

"something like that, sir." turning back to Sam. "permission to be dismissed? I'd like to get the matter we were just discussing taken care of immediately"

The major eyed Cabal's reply before taking note of Darryl," This man's not even military. What is he doing in the field?"
Darryl shrugged," I was told to take part in any available training I could, sir. No one said I was confined to base. and I think the soldier boys were happy to be rid of me. They were losing too many credits on the range and at the card table."
Marshall shook his head in disbelief.

Rhys remains silent watching what is going on in his usually calm cool manner.

Sam hands her orders over to the Major and nods at Cabal. "Dismissed." she says to him before turning back to the major.

Cabal performs a crisp 'about-face' and breaks ranks to trot off toward the quartermaster's at double-time.

(quick description of FOBs. the bases are squared built around the landing pad. There is an identical dimensioned building on each corner that is underground except for three feet roof, with the command bunker and infermary in front of the group. The armory, quartermaster and maitenance shacks are opposite it on the other side of the Death's Head. The other two buildings are barracks. In the corners are two gun turrets in opposite corners and a IAR-5 Hellfire and a Scorpion Skull Walker in the other. The robots have to move in order to gain acces to the base by anything larger than walking soldier. A watch tower with a pair of shower stalls stands between the command bunker, one of the turrets and one of the barracks. A latrine is in the opposite corner. One of the barracks has been converted into a messhall. The entire base is surrounded by a 5 ft wall and rows of concertina and vibro wire.)
Rounding the Death's Head, Cabal found Shep conversing with a sargeant in front of the armory. He looked at Cabal," You managed to escape?" he smirked.
The major read the orders over, unimpressed." But, these don't have anything one them? I don't understand, Luietenant. Except for you are to rendezvous with Lt. Norrin's squad. He's due in a little over an hour by his last update. Then what?"

Sam resists the urge to sigh as she tells the major. "I'm not sure to be honest with you sir. That was all the information I was given. I was hoping you or Lt. Norrin would be able to give me some more information when I got here."

The entire area is buffeted with dirt as the Death's head lifts off and heads to the west. The major shields his eyes as a corporal came up out of the command bunker, shouting over the noise, " Major, incoming coded transmission. It's still decoding, but something to do with a Luietenant Fraser. The rest of it needs your authorization to release."
" I would say that is your orders, Luietenant." Marshall said, beckoning her to follow him.
Darryl looked at Rhys," So what are we supposed to do?"
Shep nodded to Cabal," Nothing personal, luietenant. Just trying to help keep you alive. You may want to try a little camoflague, or something."
The sergeant nodded," And this old goat should know, he's been out here longer than anyone."
shep scowled," Do you have something to fix?"
The sergeant mock saluted as he headed towards the other end of the building," Specialist, don't you have a base commander to go say hello to? Oh, LT, if those crooks in the armory tell you you'll have to leave something for them to take back to Ft. Griggs to be repaired, don't let them. You'll never see it again."

Turning to Darryl, "It seems we find Shep and see how good the accomodations are" Turning to head the direction he saw shep dart off in.
