Chapter 31: loose ends

Captain America dismounts his cycle, moving forward. "Give Atlas a moment, Wonder Man. I'm sure he'll snap out of it."

"Doctor Foster gave me the quick version on the way here." He continues, looking at Hawkeye and the Widow. "We've got the Puppet Master gathering information from various computers." He completes his headcount. "I don't see Wolverine or Blink - they went hunting on the inside, I assume?"

"So entry plan or just the patented hero bust in? I could teleport a section of wall or the door for a bit of flash," she asked.

"Wall," chuckles. "If you make a kool-aid man joke, I'm helping you fly out a window."

"I was just trying to speed things up." Simon replied with a sly look as he folded his arms.

Widow nodded to Captain America, "In the hotel, last we saw them." She shot Hawkeye a look, "We've done this too many times you know."

"I was having fun. Weren't you?" Clint shrugged, then ducked a swat. "What do want to do Cap? Charge in and help, or wait to see if Logan flushes him?"

As Logan and Blink discussed a plan to enter, the unthinkable happened. The door opened. With a small case in hand, Phillip Masters took one look at the two Avengers, and the door slammed as they overheard, "Not good, and I don't know who she is!"

"We need information. Ghostsabre can phase in, get us information, and report back. The rest of us can close off the perimeter. Wonder Man, if your jet belt is working, we need air cover. You see anything getting away too fast? Call for Hawkeye to bring it down." Cap responded. "Let's move, people."

Gabby starts to protest about how this wasn't her fault at all! She was just defending herself against Tabby, so really, it was Tabby's fault. Well, mostly Puppet Master's fault for controlling Tabby, but then Cap starts barking orders so she just returns Tabby's hug and starts moseying around the property, watching for signs of trouble.

"Love having a skeleton key." Slices down the door on the lockside, making sure the claw barely protrudes.

"Who says you don't have a sense of humor?" she adds with a grin, "other than the obvious quick takedown we should remember what statues he has. might be other moles or potential pawns he has in mind? she asks notching an arrow and charging it. start with a bow shot or two then go to melee as needed sounds wise she thought.1d20

"Appropriate force depending on who it is. Someone who can take it, I'll dish it."

As Blink and Wolverine waited outside the motel room making plans, things inside began to become suspiciously quiet.

"Umm Cap," Simon pointed up on the fire escape, where a little old man was crawling out man was crawling out a window. "I think he's getting away from Logan."

Tabitha snickered, before realizing the dirty look Black Widow shot her, and then Simon. "Sorry."

"Come on, let's go say hi Cap." Wonderman activated his belt's jets and picked Cap up, flying to land at the bottom of the stairs.

Puppet Master rounded the last turn to look down the escape stairs at Captain America and started backpedaling slowly. "Oh crap."

"So what do we do?" Tabitha asked

Clint motioned to Erik, "Well for starters, you and Gabby wake him up while Natasha and I go watch the show."

Cap merely folded his arms and fixed his gaze on the Puppet Master. "Good evening, Mr. Masters. I'm only going to ask you once; stand down. It's for your own good."

"Alright, mind your shots." Shoves the door open.

Gabby grins. "By wake him up, you mean punch him, right!?!" Without waiting for a response, Gabby runs over to Erik and punches him right in the face, yelling "WAKE UP!!!". Gabby doesn't hit him as hard as she could - she wasn't trying to kill him, after all, just wake him up.

.As Logan and Blink barged into the room, Cap's command from somewhere outside the open window told them they were too late to catch Puppet Master, but the others already had cornered him. The room was fairly spartan, with nothing that looked much like a clue, except a notepad with a list of names scratched out.

Masters did more than he was told. He actually sat on steps, his suitcase hugged to his chest either to protect it or use it to protect himself. Either way, it was not going to work well. "Captain.... what a delightful surprise. No tricks up my sleeve, I used the last of the clay I had with me but I had not considered you or Claws being here."

Simon scoffed, "And what about me?"'

""I did not have enough clay for that ego." Puppet Master shrugged,

Simon's shoulders slumped as his bubble was burst.

"You are too late anyways. My job is done anyways." He held his wrists out as if awaiting shackles, "Alicia is safe whether Grimm tries to interfere or not"

"Gaby!" Tabitha exclaimed as Gaby delivered her blow. Even out cold, Erik was knocked sideways and groaned. Tabby intervened and helped Erik to his feet, " Are you okay?"

'"I will be." He rubbed his face. "Can we get out of here?"

"Short cut Gab?" Tabitha asked

Captain America crosses his arms as he locks eyes with the Puppet Master. "I believe this is the part where you will kindly explain yourself."
