Charlotte watches carefully, using her abilities (telepathy, empathy) to make sure no one is around before flying up to one of the second story windows. She looks for a place to hide (say a beam) to continue eavesdropping on the thoughts of the fake cops below.

Alex grinned as he saw what his uncle had done to manipulate the driver into talking, but what he said concerned him deeply. The news of the war in Europe was everywhere, to the point even his favourite radio shows were interrupted for breaking news that had missed the last report.
“Yes sir.” Alex nodded as his hand uncle turned his attention to the other man that seemed to be a friend, or at least an ally. He cracked his knuckles by making a fist tightly until they popped one by one, and got a coy look on his face. “Now, you really need to make this easy for all of us and tell everything you know about this German. Do you mean he was born there, or he’s a hardline Nazi supporter with jackboots and swastika tattoos? I need all the details on what was supposed to happen, and how you contacted him afterwards. You can relax, he will never find out we got our information from you.”

"You are young; it is always good to always be learning." The Older man patted the Hunter on the shoulder. "So, do you have a name, or shall I call you Hunter?"
"Tattoos?" The goon was perplexed by Alex's statement. "What, we're not savages or south sea sailors!" He took a minute. "Nah, born there, from the accent and stuff. Said he needed Powell's gizmo out of the way, and well, we've got our own interests to look out for, you know? This ain't the good old days of Pasty Maroni. So the plan was to set the contraption loose, have it take out some of the locals, scare the population. Then we'd meet up on the Riverside bridge for payment."
Charlotte was able to get inside the second story window; she was inside an empty office, and able to hide behind a support beam as the fake cops dragged the goons down the hall. She wasn't able to hear much different than what she heard outside...until she felt a powerful mind speak out in the same tone of voice as she heard at the podium: Powell himself.
These Nazi agents are going to ruin everything! The problem with genius; no one really appreciates the effort it takes to be one.

"Hunter will do for now. I have interests to protect after all."

“We? You said we.” Alex smirked as he caught the tongue slip. He considered continuing the conversation in German, but was not sure how his uncle’s new friend would react. Instead he focused on the target. “What is Mr. Powell’s new invention that has the Nazis nervous enough to thwart the debut? And blowing up towers seems far from setting something loose, or were they just the distraction for the real saboteurs?” Alex could not help but grin slightly, for this was all new to him. If questions were to be asked, he left them to the police or his uncle, so he did not mind proving he was capable.

Charlotte shakes her head at Powell's thought. He's going to get thousands of innocent people killed and all he cares about is that no one can see he's a genius Charlotte continues to monitor the situation, doing her best to stay undiscovered hoping to get a bit of a better idea of what is going on.

"I don't know! I Don't know! It was the Voice!" The Goon's voice carried far enough that the Hunter could hear it as he and Lex made his way back to the interrogation. "We don't know what this weapon is, just that the Voice was paying in gold to do what he said!"
Alex could hear his uncle returning with the Hunter.
***
Charlotte was able to keep behind Powell and his enforcers as they dragged the captured goons into one of the back offices. From there, she could make out the conversations with her hearing.
"Where is the Voice?" "I don't know!" "What do you know about Project: Zeus?" "I don't know!" "You're going to tell me everything, and then, maybe, I'll let you live. Now, don't insult my intelligence and get started."
Powell's thoughts were even darker than his spoken words
Idiots. Simple gangsters with delusions of grandeur - they sell out for such small coin. What their kind never understands is that it is better to get money from the state legally. That's why I'm an arms manufacturer. Still, I need to get the Voice out of my way, or Project Zeus will be finished. We might actually have to fight the Germans, and that's the last thing I want...

"The Voice? Who is the Voice?" Alex asked, turning to his uncle and the newcomer returning. He looked back at their prisoner, "He certainly didn't hire you and your buddies for your brains, did he? You have no idea what something is, but because someone from a country our government just declared war on says he'll give you gold to blow it up, that doesn't set off air raid sirens in the back of your mind that maybe it's a bad idea? Had we not stepped in, how do you know your explosives wouldn't set off a reaction that ended up splattering part of you halfway between Windy City and the Big Easy?" He turned and looked at the other men. "I think we should show up in his place on Riverside bridge to explain what went wrong in case this Voice shows up, What's left of him when I'm done we can turn over to Hoover's men." Alex grinned slightly, the idea of going after this Voice person appealing.

Hunter shrugs. "No idea who this Voice is, but paying in gold, tells us a bit. No way to trace the original country source, yet also a promised value for work, no matter what happens."

Charlotte continues hiding, hoping to get a little more information about who this Voice person is and what Powell is planning before she meets up with Uncle Lex and the others.

"I have heard rumors of this 'Voice'." Lex briefly rotated his right shoulder; Alex knew he was nursing an old injury from one of his experimental rifles that ended up having a bit too much 'kick'. He only moved it that way when he was nervous. "A German, or Fifth Columnist - no one's sure. But he's trouble. I heard from an old friend in Chicago that he was causing something...before that friend ended up washing up on the shore of Lake Michigan."
"See?" The Goon practically laughed. "You don't want to get in his way. So how about you untie me and -"
"-You are going to tell us where the drop-off was supposed to be, where you were going to get paid. You will tell us now, and then we will find out if you were stupid or fatally stupid."
The Goon gulped. "Jill O'Diamonds. Tonight at 11 PM. Back Room."
"Well, Gentlemen." Lex beamed at the Hunter and Alex. "It seems you have a lead."
***
"GO TO JILL O'DIAMONDS! GO THERE! ELEVEN PM! HE'LL BE THERE TO PAY US OFF!"
Charlotte was surprised by the next sound she heard.
Paul Powell's laughter was about an octave lower than his speaking voice; it practically boomed down the hallway.
"Oh...oh that's rich. And I know rich." He took a few breaths before chuckling again. "You think you're going to get paid, after this?"
Charlotte heard a pair of heavy hands hit a wooden table.
"Here's what's going to actually happen. You're going to stay at a place of my choosing; when I want to see you, I'll see you. In the meantime, you better hope I don't even think of you, because if I do...it will go very badly for you."
All this trouble just to prove to my country we can defend ourselves from the Japs with a fleet of electric airships. The price of genius, I suppose.

"Oh you are very wrong." Alex smiled like some sort of predator. "He sounds like exactly the kind of person I want to get in the way of." Whether this Voice guy was a sympathizer, a collaborator or a full blooded Nazi, he was exactly the type of target Alex wanted a piece of. The question was whether Lex agreed he was ready for something like this.
He was a bit surprised when the goon gave up the address so quick, and then Lex' response to it. Alex looked at the Hunter, "Did he put you back together enough in case this gets rough?" He smirked.

Figuring she had pushed her luck enough, Charlotte sneaks back out of the building as quietly as she can. Once she's out, Charlotte heads to the address Lex gave her to meet up with everyone.

Charlotte was able to sneak away without much trouble; it turns out that between the saboteurs and the press, quite the commotion had been raised.
***
Uncle Lex looked at the two men. "I do hope you kids can play together nicely." He turned his head towards the exit; Hunter's senses, sharp as they were could pick up the sounds of someone walking nearby.
Lex opened the door and found Charlotte there. "Any trouble?" He asked, genuine concern in his voice.
