Lex could not believe what he saw, hesitating before diving for cover as the machine opened fire. He responded with his pistol still in hand, aiming for the skeletal skull

Rex and Lex are able to evade fire as they get cover, but Lex's return fire did no damage.

Vivian is blown clear as the barn goes up in flames.
"Dang-nabbit!" Matt races for her form and takes a bullet in the back from a robot as he catches her fall, stumbling.
The robot advances on Matt and Vivian.
Matt grunts. "This ain't going well. When I say the word, run, get to cover. I'll hold him." He removes his pistol from his holster.

Lex saw the machines focusing on Matt and Vivian and he immediately got nervous. He plucked up his Tommy Trencher and shouldered, again aiming at the robot's head as he racked in hunting slug into place. "Alright tin can, I got your can opener right here. Come on stupid, leave the kids alone." He said aloud, squeezing the trigger.

One of the robots turns in Rex's direction as he shouts and fires a beam of blue lightning at him.

Lex's bullets bounce off the robot as it advances on Matt and Vivian. The robot is about to fire when you all hear the neighing of a horse. In the light of the fire, you see a figure in a black cowboy hat on a black steed charge the robot, knocking it down with its front hooves as it rose up at the last second. The firelight reveals the rider's face: it's Caleb Cannon, Matt's grandfather and the original Dark Rider.
"Git you varmits!" He cried out as he got out his shotgun. "Ah reckon you require some assistance?"1d20+3·5d6

"Be careful." Lex sputtered as he saw Caleb take down one of the machine men. He turned his attention to the other and shouldered his weapon again as he racked in the next slug and fired just as he saw energy burst from the aggressor towards Rex

Caleb buys Vivian and a wounded Matt time to get away, even as the attacker gets up, knocking horse and rider down...

Lex saw Caleb knocked down by the robot and he hesitated for a minute. The man was a legend, and an inspiration for all of them there. He could not stand by while he was in trouble, "Rex, I'm going for Caleb!" He shouted, then charged towards the robot that had knocked him down. He shouldered his shotgun as he did, and once he had the robot's head in his sights, he stopped long enough to squeeze off another round.

Lex's bullets do nothing as the robot crushes the throat of the horse with a step as it prepares to do the same to Caleb, pinned under the horse. Caleb tosses an old tomahawk at the robot. "AIM FOR THE EYES!"

(ooc-not sure how much ground Lex covered)
Lex knew Caleb was in trouble as he continued to charge forward when he heard The elder Rider's directions. The trench gun came up to his shoulder again and he stopped much closer this time, shouting at the machine man, "HEY! TIN CAN! SMILE FOR THE CAMERA!" as he stopped and pulled the trigger while aiming for the robot's head again.

After a few moment, Vivian is able to shake off the fear that had paralyzed her after getting blown out of the barn by the robots. She is grateful for Caleb's intervention and says to Matt, as she starts to look for a place they can use for cover "Come on. Don't be an idiot."

Matt holds his wounded shoulder Vivian gets to cover behind the truck. "He needs my help." He tries to take aim slowly.
Lex and Rex's shots both glance off the armor as one robot advances on Caleb and his remaining partner begins moving towards the farmhouse...

Lex saw his shots bounce off and knew he had to do something fast. Dropping his big gun, he broke into a run towards the robot after Caleb, "Stop the other one from getting to the house!" He shouted as his tapped the actuator on his palm and causing his heavy steel blades to scissor into place on his forearm. Once he was close enough, he threw himself at the robot, his blades leading the way to stab it in the head.
