Jessica sat down in the witness box. After swearing an oath to be honest, the lawyer from The Insurance Group stood up.
"Alright, Miss Stephens, as you know, we are here to establish what led to the destruction of the Galaxy, the loss of its captain, Tawfeek Arar, and the portion of Inner-Belt Mining's claim on Asteroid P-45."
[GM waits for the rustling of pages in Mutants in Orbit to subside.]
"Now, let's start on Titan." The lawyer said.
"Well," Jessica said, "It started with a message that I received from - "
"Objection," called a crisply dressed intervener from the American government. He clearly wasn't the transportation commission or property claims lawyer that usually attends these. "The details of the message are beyond the scope of this inquiry. It would be sufficient to the court to accept that the call instigates the Galaxy's departure from Titan."
"Let the record so note," the judge said, without a thought.
A couple of spectators, wearing the distinctive Dominion of Humanity pins, got up and left the courtroom.
"So, I got this call..." Jessica continued.
