Angels against Demons.
Light versus Dark.
Heaven versus Hell.
Every culture has it its own terms for the so-called eternal war waged over the fate of mankind. But where is the proof such a struggle takes place? Nowhere on the Six O’clock news are there stories of demon offensives thwarted by the work of angels. The daily papers have no headlines to warn the readers where the frontlines are drawn, nor are there interest links that show casualty numbers with editorials by survivors to add effect. To most, such concerns don’t impact their daily routine.
Then there is another phenomenon that for the most part has little to do it the general public, the notion that there are superheroes and villains also battling one another amongst us as well. These meta-humans however dominate our media, the tales of vile acts and courageous acts giving reports more than enough stories to feed the masses on a daily basis. But is there some sort of connection? Even the super powered would be skeptical of such a possibility.
That was until three days ago, when who was believed to be just another winged meta-human gathered a select group for the sake of unity of a new hero team. Identifying himself as Lucius, he began an unbelievable tale.
“ I have gathered you together because you have been selected either by actions or reputation help in the coming days. Have any of you ever wondered where and why meta-humans like yourselves manifested from? Though I doubt you will believe me, you were chosen by a higher power to be champions in the coming days. As many of you may have heard, the fallen hero Doctor Midnight has claimed responsibility for the destruction two nights ago of the Metro police station What you may not have heard is that the explosion was not in the station, nor were the police the target. St. Anthony Cathedral next door was the actual location of the bomb, which was in the basement. This is the third time Midnight has claimed to be responsible, each time a place of worship being involved but the authorities have failed to recognize the real targets. The significance is that these three locations held vaults that had been maintained for centuries. The vaults served only one purpose, to maintain supplies needed to keep the denizens of Hell at bay.
I know this sounds farfetched, but consider this. In a world where people can fly or outrun race cars or lift buildings without effort, why is it not conceivable that demons exist? I doubt you have seen one before, or a guardian such as myself, for I am actually breaking the rules by enlisting you so blatantly, but we know something dire is brewing. One of my counterparts has heard whisperings from a captured imp about the arrival of a powerful group that are known as the Sins. We have no other information before the imp escaped, but there is no evidence that these Sins have arrived on Earth yet, or who or what they are. All we know for certain is that they will be a threat to everyone in this city, and possibly the entire country. Because of the rules set upon Guardians, we need a group of champions who can openly oppose the demons. You are those chosen champions, each of you selected for the skill set you bring to our cause. I implore you to accept, and we will do the best we can to provide you with supplies you require, including a place to stay if needed. I’m afraid the pay is not great and the prestige even less, but implore to accept my offer.”
The idea of the game is inspired by the Hellblazer/Constantine idea, mixed a little with John Carpenter's Vampires ( with demons instead of bloodsuckers) and maybe a bit of Chaos Earth thrown in
PCs can be any class expect Immortals , and all power combinations will be considered, though I do not have Armaggedon Unlimited so it will not be accepted.
Up to 6 players, with pc's starting at level two as they are not "new"heroes.
I will expect at least a post a week, with prompts from the GM if a player is holding up progress, though I won't be a jerk about it, merely a friendly reminder PMed.
I will ask for a single D20 roll added to each post for perception checks. I don't want JIC rolls, I will ask for them if needed, and excessive and unnecessary rolls tend to get ignored unless I ask for them. .
Post any interest or questions for the idea
