Issue 20: A Well Deserved Rest

Kitty smiles a little more broadly to the Professor (ooc: not cheshire-cat style though. creepy!), offering a nod. "Of course, Professor, I'd be happy to." she replies sincerely. As Professor Xavier begins to move away, Kitty looks to Logan, a sigh in her gaze. "Isn't timing wonderful?"

Matt can't hide the frown that creases his face as he recognizes the voice out of the crowd. He says, "this place is busy tonight, I can hear alot of people."

He then pauses and tries to focus in on the recognized voice, to identify what she is saying and where she is in the restaurant.

Jen decides she wants to get a little close to that booth to she if it really was Masque making the scene. She moves closer to the area to take a look.

Chris paused a moment as Blink talked," Teleported? What the hell? who sent you?" He started backing away from Blink. "Doesn't matter. It's too late anyways." He started laughing.


"You picked a heck of a night to try to meet women." There was something to Sharon's tone as she spoke. "We're trying to pick one of Hammerhead's people that is here somewhere. There's a turf war brewing between the clans and Nick wants it quelled before it gets ugly."

"Get's ugly?" The other woman replied," We have a tip that Hammerhead has hired Juggernaut and Rhino for something, we need to find out what. We thought you were our target at first because of the way you hesitated to enter. We thought you might have been tipped off."

"Steve, if this escalates, we can really use you help on this. This you can drag Stark from his audience to help too?"

Across the room there was some sort of commotion taking place.

As Jen got to the booth, she found no sign of MAsque. In fact there was no sign of anyone except a creepy looking old guy sipping a martini and watching the young women on the dance floor sitting in the back of the booth.

Melissa laughed with a nod. "That will teach you not to just take stuff that isn't yours." The waitress looked annoyed until Melissa paid her, with a generous tip. she looked back to Tally, "come on, we'll get you another cherry bomb at the bar." She looked around," Did you see where Jen went? " She scowled and looked around, then took Tally by the hand. " See, I told you there was no worries about fitting in. Jenn is green and and she disappeared in the crowd in a blink. I hope she just went to freshen up. She's a big girl, she can fiind us."

As Peter continued eating, his spidersenses tingled for just a moment again, and he was certain it wasn't his meal this time.


Focusing, Matt could only here Mystique when the room hushed again, but it was enough to make out the words "detenator" and "trapped", followed by some laughter. It was difficult to tell, but it sounded like she was speaking from the direction of Hammerhead's table.

As their meals arrived," Tabitha interrupted, Matt? What's wrong?" she waited until the waiter left them alone before adding," You sound more like your other self all of a sudden."

Tally just nods to the fact of the drink being not what it appeared but smiles when the offer of another one of those lovely drinks comes up. "She will find us if needed, until then we can go get another drink and go back to the dance floor. As that seemed like the most fun." She says with a smile as she follows along not even really paying attention to anything.

Steve nods. "I'll see what I can do." Steve moves towards Tony, cutting through the crowd as best he can. "Excuse me, pardon me."

"Never too late, but I'm guessing there is more going on than your willing to tell." she pressed the issue, "and to answer you, no one did. Now you want out of here or not?" she flared her eyes readying to initiate a teleport.

[Dome]

Matt says, "Oh, I uhh... I just heard a voice in the crowd, sounded like someone else," 'I hope,' he finishes in his head.

He tries to offer her a smile, "I'm sorry for being distracted. With my abilities, sometimes I get overwhelmed with sounds and my other senses."

He says, "excuse me a moment, I need to use the restroom." He pushes back from the table, "I'm sorry to leave you, but I'll be right back." Standing he takes her hand and kisses the back of it like he had done earlier, and says with a smile, "don't go anywhere. Go ahead and start without me, I shouldn't take long."

He then gets up and moves towards the restroom while trying to identify where Mystique is and see if he can pick up more of the conversation. Of course his movement across the crowded restaurant is done with a cane so as not to draw any attention.

Jen regards the creepy old guy sitting at the booth. Thoughts from various movies about serial killers comes to mind and non too pleasent mental images. She was sure this is where Masque went but now she was literally out of sight. Jen could have ended it there, checking it up to still stressed nerves from their previous adventure, but she wasn't a big believer in coincidence.

Besides if the old man says anything good girls put the lotion on, she wouldn't have any problems putting him in a hospital; in another state.

"Hi there." Jen says after moving over to his booth. "I was wondering if you could help me. I"m looking for acquintance and she wears a gold mask on her face."

Peter stiffens up momentarily at his Spider-Sense going off but remains in his seat and attempts to keep a calm look on his face. “OK, this is good but I just got that particular sensation I get when something bad is about to happen.” He stuffs his face some more and tries to ignore it, but when the feeling happens again, he swallows quickly and says “I...need to use the little spider's room. I promise I'll be back.” He walks to the restroom and if he runs into Matt Murdock, he'll quietly say “Can I help you to the restroom, sir?” Once in the restroom, (if with Murdock): “What the hell is happening out there? Do you feel it too? Something's about to go down the one day that I get out with the lady! This is ridiculous! Can't I just have one day off? What do we do? Do you know what's going on? Why am I rambling so much? Do we need to call the Fantastic Four so I can borrow one of their costumes and a paper bag?”

There was no one else in the bathroom when Peter began his rant. Matt was nearly certain that Mystique and Hammerhead were together, but the rise and fall of theroom volume had made it impossible to focus on eavesdropping on them.

" Hey buddy, no need to push," one of the pink wearers said as Steve moved in to the crowd. Tony turned, an tHe blue from his neckband lit up his obvious smile. "Hey, nothing happing in the shallow end of the pool and decided to take the plunge?".

Passed Stark Steve could see two new glows, both of them pink and their location they reminded Cap of eyes. There was also a confrontation going on. ( see pm before posting)

" Trust me, Clarice. It's too late to stop the boss and his crazy scheme. If you really do have a way to get out of here, I would'nt stop until I got... WHAT THE HELL?" He started backing away, clearly seeing her eyes start to glow. " Masque is hiring freaks now? "

Melissa nodded, "Sure. And we will know if Jen needs us when she starts tearing the place apart. She is as subtle as Tabitha is. I can't imagine what she is going through tonight with her date. From what she told me, I bet she doesn't know what to do with herself in a fancy place like that. No thanks, not my style."

The bartender came and got their orders, returning with a glass of ginger ale for Melissa and a cherry bomb for Tally in one of the large beer mugs. As Melissa paid, she said," Now see if you can make this one last, okay?"


The creepy old guy lowers his glasses and looks at Jen as he picked up a glass of stout. "Piss off, wench" he said over the glass as he took a drink.

"Well thats something I can work with." she grinned "You help me and I can try to help you. Since you called the scheme crazy I take it your not fond of it." Blink let her eyes flared out, "Who's Masque and what can't be stopped? Oh and I prefer the term geneticly diverse or mutant...not freak." Blink asked politely as one could while trying to be firm.
