Ch. 8 - Back in Action

"Well that killed the mood." Kain did not make a move to retrieve the radio. If Sam wants him to carry that is fine, but he wasn't going to be overly eager to accept that role as it could curtail his actions in the field. He pulls out his computer and goes over the local intell of the area where their target had been and looking over its specs. Could prove useful if things did not go their way.

[dakota]

The rest of the flight was in near silence. twenty minutes later, the dog boy gunner looked at the squad, "Coming up on LZ. "

The SkyHawk circled once before touching down in a small opening in the jungle like canopy. As Shep was the first out and clear of the transport, the Dog Boy glanced back at the others, " Thank you for flying Air Cav, buh bye." He grinned before turning back to watch out over his rail gun.

[foxx]

Kain closes the handheld and stores it back into its pouch. He looks at the helmet a moment, contemplating some unspoken thought on his mind; almost like a prayer to some higher power. Once he's done he spins the helmet and dons it looking it in place and letting the inside mechanics do their thing. Once they start their move for the door to hop out, he gives the dog boy a thump on the shoulder as a 'your welcome' for the ride to their location.

He hits the ground lightly, away from the transport. He moves lightly to take up a cover fire position for the rest to disembark. The rifle steady scanning the surrounding area in his corridor of fire.

[Janxi]

Janxi went from out cold to wide awake as soon as the helo began to drop. She rechecked her weapon and traded out her soft cover for her helmet. As the helo went down, she checked out the window for landmarks and consulted a map to get her bearings. With touchdown, she was on the deck and sprinted to cover the others exit. She scanned the swamp for signs of trouble using her optics. She searched the ground for any fresh tracks, rodent, dino or otherwise and covered the rest of the team as they disembarked.

[Tori]

Tori wasted no time either. She replaced her boonie with a helmet and tried, like Janxi to get a fix on their position. When the helo landed, she sprinted to cover and began searching for any signs of trouble.

[Takota]

During the flight Takota keeps himself busy by listening to some music and toying with the CI-404 making sure he learns everything he can about the weapon without disturbing Janxi.

As soon as they start to descend the leopard puts on his helmet and makes sure all of his equipment is secured. Upon touchdown Takota waits until the others are out before hopping out himself with the somewhat bulky weapon he's carrying.

Like the others he immediately starts to scan the area looking for signs of anything that might pose a threat, both supernatural and mundane, using his and skills.

"Hey Shep?" Tori asked in almost a whisper. "I know Tacky's skill set. He's a good backup point. Permission to give him some OJT on my six?"

Tori's tail swished twice, and she shrunk to invisible behind a palmetto.

Despite being ready for anything, no shots came from the canopy. Relaxing his ready state, Shep looked at Tori, " Except for Det and the Captain, any of us run point or rear guard. You want to give Tackey your spot, that's fine by me. Scope, Janxi, you two stick with bosslady. Kain, you're riding back door with me. And yeah, I'm a little crankier than usual. Deal with it. Command is trying to force me out of the field and I ain't happy about it one bit. I'll do what I can to keep from taking it out you, but no promises."

[Tori]

"Clear," said Tori at a conversational area as the helo cleared the area.

"Ain't what I'm sayin... He ain't gettin' mah spot, not yet. I wanna cross train 'em, so if I go down or have a patient 'er somethin, he can step in fer us. That's whatya call ree-DUN-din-see. An' no a-fence er nuthin, but right now, I'm tha only one I trust on point.

"Force ya out? Whaddya mean?" Tori's tail gave a swish. Her eyes and ears were unseen beneath her helmet, but she seemed to be staring at Shep. Only one reason she could think of that anyone would get forced out of specops. She shot Sam a quick look, expression unreadable with her face shield in place, but for a second, she seemed hurt. Then, the angry stare returned to Shep.

Reluctantly, she broke the gaze, as this was not the time for a challenge, and geared up for the hump. She cut some vegetation to camouflage her chicken suit, then looked back at Shep, though not quite ready to make eye contact.

"Yew have a headin' yew want me to folla, er are we headin' back to get Evie? I ain't got mah bearins, yet."

Kain nods to Shep and goes to take up the rear guard spot for when the team moves out. Judging by the conversation Kain not only drop into a important search and destroy mission but also a little group drama. He felt sympathetic for Shep, its not easy doing this job and the body can only take so much abuse before its time to ride a desk. At least that is Kain theory at the moment. If you don't die in the field, burn out is the next thing that will take you off working with active teams.

Can't have their important operatives loosing their edge in the field.

"Kain; its clear in the rear. Ready to move." Kain said quietly back to the rest of the team. He settle down, continiously watching the foliage around them for trouble big or small.

[Janxi]

"Clear!" Barked Janxi loud enough to be heard.

"The more things change, the more they stay the same." Janxi's tail gave two severe swishes. "Well, juss hopin we kin find tha pogue doc, I mean DOCTOR, win we need 'er."

She began to adjust Tori's cammo, "Got a branch loose, Smurfette," then she attempted to camouflage herself, cutting leaves and branches. Still, she watched for any tracks.

"I know what you're saying Tori, and I'm saying that if he had to, he could walk the point. You two want to compare tips and tricks, that's fine, just do it quiet like. I'll explain better later, once we make some ground."

Shep pulled out an old fashioned map he had folded so their LZ was on the top page. As the SkyHawk lifted and pulled away, Shep beckoned the others closer. " We're here," he pointed to a red x on the map, " Intel, if we dare call it that, puts the target down here" he flipped the page and showed a blue x. " Puts us about fifteen klicks northwest. Tori, looks like this river here will give us a half way point. Do me a favor and check for giant frogs before we cross, okay?" He gave Sam a glance and a shrug," Let's head out I guess, unless we got questions?"

[Tori]

Tori took a second to fix Janxi's camouflage, just as the big cat helped her.

"Aye-Aye, Shep. We're oscar mike! And uh, dontcha mean alligators?"

Tori still trusted Shep's field judgment, and if he said move quickly and shut up, that was all the incentive she needed.

Though the matter was far from resolved, Tori was okay with pointing the mission. She observed Shep's map and nodded, starting to hump southeast toward the objective.

"Tacky? You're on my six. Let's roll."

The little cat seemed to blend into the swamp as she pointed the team on the stalk towards the target.

[Janxi]

"You need a break, Shep, call for one. We don't like this shit, but we ain't walkin' ya to death." Janxi formed up behind Takota, but just in front of Six.

She waited for Takota to scoot, and followed at distance behind him, in stalk mode.

[Takota]

Once the Skyhawk is gone Takota listens past the voices and movements of the others to see what kind of sounds he can pick up around them.

When Shep pulls out the map the leopard is there to silently study it making sure he knows the details as much as possible even though he knows he can recall it all later on with the use of his abilities.

Once the course is set and everyone is quiet again Takota gives Tori a quick nod and falls in behind her. The CI-404 is not exactly a stealth weapon and his CA-3 armor is not really made for sneaking but the matte black and gray coloring along with padded joints seems to break up his outline and quiet the movement enough to make it somewhat difficult if someone were tracking him.
