Ch. 8 - Back in Action

[Janxi]

While Tori worked, Janxi took Scope's boot.

"Armored er not, you ain't goin' nowhere wif yer boot beat all-ta-hell." Using her supernatural strength, she pressed the boot back into a reasonably human foot shape.

"There ya go. Juss don't go playin' footsies wif no more lizards." She passed the boot back to Scope and gave him a nuzzle. To a cat, it was pretty much a high-five.

"An' yew!" Her glance fell on Takota. She walked over and gave him a nose-to-nose nuzzle. That was more like a kiss than just a casual high-five. "You bess remember ta duck when some overgrown gecko takes a swing atcha!" She hugged him and was glad he was safe.

"Yeah, Six, getting some Eagle UAV's to do flyovers won't be a big loss. They're like flyin' skelebots. We git a fix, and smoke tha gun!"

Janxi kept her wits about her, even as life went on in the swamp without predators, she stayed mindful of danger.

Takota stays next to his tree until the two beasties are long gone. Only then does he do a quick check to make sure he is still in one piece.

Like the others he checks to make sure the dinos are not coming back after Scope alerts the local area to their presence but he can fully understand the human's pain. Having broken toes is no fun at all.

When Janxi turns her attention toward him Takota's ears splay as if he'd been caught doing something wrong. "I was trying to take a bite out of the bastard's tail." the leopard complains after giving the jag-lion a return nuzzling.

[foxx]

Kain is done with searching for the Allosaurous and baby and breaks out his portable computer, he leads a line from it to his helmet and begins accessing it from his bionics HUD, still using the keys but without that dreadful, killer, glare of a computer screen to give away their position. He was looking up the latest maps of the area where they target had been. He lifts his head slightly at the suggestion to start flying UAV's.

"Thats ill advised; once we start sending flyers out looking for them they are going to start moving the gun. You know they're going to move it if they start shooting the flyers down. Thats been their op since they began shooting at anything CS. Shoot and scoot.

"Best thing for us is if they stay put for now till so we can catch up with them."

Once he gets an idea of the lay of the lands, he closes up the computer and puts it away and goes back to watching the scenery for everything not wearing CS armor.

[Takota]

Though he knows Scope's foot needs to be tended to Takota can't stand the thought of just standing around. To keep himself busy while listening for anything that might be sneaking up on them he wanders over to examine the dinosaur footprints more out of curiosity than out of any real information gathering aspect.

Hearing Kain he remembers that the new member of the group was not around for their first discussion about the gun they are looking for. "Actually it would be one of the best ways to find it. The problem is finding someone to fly around and get shot at. The thing we are looking for is huge. If we get some nutcase to draw its fire we will have a bearing to follow to find it. Then as it moves through the brush it will leave a nice path to follow. Even if it moves over the water in the swamp it should churn up the mud making a trail that will lead right to it."

[Tori]

"Thing's gonna leave a trail, Cain. We git a good idea where it is, an even if they clear data, chances are we kin follow it to its next hide out. Cuz right now, it could be anywhere wifin this here swamp." Tori's tail gave too swishes and she looked up at Takota.

"That's tha beauty of UAV's. Remote operation. Couple pogues're out there on the Joe P. belowdeck whizzin' 'long with some eagles actin like they're sea strikers on a snoop-n-poop. BVR, they ain't gonna know manned aircraft from unmanned. Even if they do, and decide to hold their fire, Eagles have great optics, and we'll be able to spot them. No lives at risk, and worst case scenerio, we lose a couple flyin skelebots, wif no loss of life."

She returned her attention to her patient. "You think yer gon' make it?"

[dakota]

"Problem is this thing doesn't just shoot everything down, Tori." Shep pointed out as Scope put his modified boot back on and stood up," otherwise we'd be scattered across the past five klicks. Whoever has that thing is smart, smarter than the mutie rats, thats for sure."

Scope took a couple gingerly steps," Good to go, bosslady. only a little sore."

[Tori]

"Then if they whiff on a tango, it'sa good thang!" Tori looked gleeful. "If they ain't gon shoot down tha Eagles, then we git them to do thermal flyovers. Metal an' armor holds heat lots diff-rent than swamps and trees. They're gon' shoot down them eagles, or them eagles er gon find tha tank."

Tori nodded as Scope walked. "Yew look awright, but laak ah said, sing out if it gits sore."

Sam waits quietly as Tori works on Scope, realizing she'd just get in the way. As she waits, Sam watches for sign of trouble that might be coming their way. Sam smiles at Scope and pats him on the shoulder, "Good to hear." she replies. Listening to the chatter, Sam shakes her head and says, "We're sticking to the mission as planned."

"Copy that, Six. So where we headin' now?" Janxi took a drink of water, emptying her canteen and looking to Six for further orders.

"My money's still on the Splugorth if ya wanna know. Rats got too much Splugorth firepower fer mah likin'"

She sealed off her helmet and looked over the team. "Ready when y'all are."

" You heard the boss lady," Shep said, on his feet and ready to move, " we continue as planned," Tori, Tak, try not to lead us into anymore ambushes today." Shep's tone was lighter, clearly loosening up now that they were away from base, and he was smiling as he flipped up his visor long enough to take a drink from his canteen.

Det took Scope's pack, adjusting things so he could get it over his massive shoulders while Scope only carried the case for his sniper rifle," We get back to base, first round of cat nip and warm milk is on me," he chuckled.

Shep looked at Kain, " Bet they didn't warn you we aren't like other squads, did they? "

[Tori]

"If there ain't no more sick call, we're oscar mike." Tori put in a plug of catnip and buttoned down her helmet.

Her tail gave a mirthful swish. "I thought we 'voided an ambush, but we'll keep on wif tha keepin' on."

At that, she started off on the same heading as before. Again fading into the swamp. Fishing cats were in their element within a swamp.

As the plan Tori suggested is veto'ed Takota's first thought is to argue that it will take much longer to wander aimlessly but then just shrugs and turns to face the brush and keep watch. 'Remember Takota, you get paid the same either way. Spending two weeks out here doing the same job that could be done in two days just means less time being bored on base.' he thinks to himself.

Without a word he just waits for the others to get ready then follows Tori into the swamp once again.

Janxi could read feline body language, and knew Takota was thinking much the same as she was. Her ears flattened with the order, but she nodded, "Aye aye, Six."

At that, she put in her own plug of catnip and gave Tacky one last nuzzle.

"Ours is not to ask why, ours is to whoop ass, ooh-rah?"

She buttoned down her helmet and headed out in the previous marching order.

"No they didn't." Kain agrees. "But I'll make do."

He wonders how different they are from the rest of the teams he's work with. Could bear more observation considering the make up, but they still had a mission complete and anything the Splugorth had needs to be destroyed. Just because he did not agree with everything the CS stood for did not mean he was willing to see the monsters dominating the land.

[Mierin]

Once the rest of the team is ready to go, Sam heads out again, keeping an eye out for signs of trouble.
