Bio:
Zachary, better known simply as Coop thanks to a nickname from his teammates, is a bit of a disappointment to his parents. They expected him to continue tradition of keeping the family’s history of shifter magic alive as they had done for generations since they turned their backs and broke away from the guild before the magical energies faded away centuries ago and moved to the small community of Kill Devil Falls a couple hours outside the city. Though they were unable to continue they're spell casting, they continued to practice the rituals and studying the ancient arts. Though he has no apparent talent for the mystic arts, Coop does help out his family when they put on one of their ceremonial performances, mainly providing muscle when setting up or taking down.
Instead, he was born with a natural gift for athletics, which his family has begrudgingly supported. Always good at sports, in high school his gift for football soon became apparent. After two championships and being named to the league all-star team all through high school, it was a given he would play varsity. It did come as a surprise when he chose to attend Xomo University and not one of the more sport oriented school in favor of staying close to home. The fact that they did offer him a scholarship just as the other schools had had helped. His work ethic helped him develop into a key part of the defense at middle linebacker.
Though he enjoys his success, it has the downside that annoys him. Everyone sees him as nothing more than a big dumb jock and fail to realize that he is actually taking the journalism program. That was where he first heard of the club and looked into it during his second year. Being raised in a magical influenced environment, he had no interest in his family’s rituals and ceremonies, but he still had curiosity about the mystic arts. When he heard about the Occultism club, his curiosity got the better of him and he started asking questions. Those questions caused him to take a lot of ribbing from his teammates about it, even if it is good natured. He took it in stride, as it takes a lot to push him too far, and he usually gives as well as he gets. Still, first chance he gets, he intends to check Professor Montrose’s club out. He knows he will be a bit of an outsider because of the combination of his lack of magic abilities and his athletic background, but his interest and family history that drew him in the first place will keep him an active member, though he has no intentions of spreading around about his family.
The scholarship also allowed him to use the money he had saved up for tuition to instead get an apartment off campus. He took a small two bedroom a few blocks off campus upstairs from a barbeque restaurant called The Slaughterhouse that is fairly popular. The rent is reasonable and he has an outside entrance, but his neighbor in the other apartment Mrs. Winston and her black cat Gabriel creeps Coop out, especially when the cat sits outside his window and watches his apartment. He did learn quickly it doesn’t like his saxophone, and runs home whenever he gets it out. The restaurant downstairs is loud enough he doesn’t bother customers when he takes his instrument out on the fire escape or up on the roof, and none of the neighboring buildings have complained that he knows of. He has had an offer to be a delivery driver for the restaurant , but for now has turned it down because it would interfere with school and football.
Zach is the middle child of Lucas and Mara Cooper. His older brother Thomas (26) and older sister Kimberly (23) followed in their parent’s footsteps, though Thomas left the family farm some time ago and Coop doesn’t know where he went. He also has a younger brother Andrew (14) and sister Denise (11), both of who have shown interest in family activities. Coop’s paternal grandfather Freeman is the actual owner of the farm the family lives on, and Kim’s boyfriend Ray Garmin lives there as well, originally hired on to pick up for Coop going off to school before the relationship blossomed.
