Ch. 13 Turning the tide

William looks at Alice for a moment, trying to think of another analogy. "Well, picking up stones and hitting the guy from behind. Similar things like that. You don't need to be strong to use your powers, only crafty and in control. OK?"

William nods at Dmitri. "OK. We're off. Everyone be ready."

And he leads Dmitri to an address indicated by Tyler.

Alice nods at William. "Ok." As William leaves, Alice waits for Jason, trying to control her nerves, hoping she doesn't screw this up too badly.

" I'm fine, Is." Ashley replied, adjusting her fit and then zipping up the front of all things, a wetsuit. She pulled an oversized t-shirt over it. " Fel and I just needed to get some things straight and she wanted to make sure my head was on straight. Forget about it." she replied unconvincingly. Jason and Trevor came in shortly there after and Trevor smirked at Ashley. " Are we interrupting ?"


" You can breath kiddo. " Tyler suggested to alice with a smirk. " You know it's none of my business, but how serious are things between you and Jas? I don't have to ask him how he feels, I already know just by looking."


A few blocks off the waterfront, the small warehouse would have been nondescript were it not for the pair of thugs out front and another hiding poorly in the shadowsof the flat roof. None of them had weapons visible." Dimitri glanced at Will. " Looks like Tyler was right about this place."

"No Trevor you are not interupting, we are just preparing for the upcoming events."

Isamu then leans over towards Ashley and whispers, "I do believe there is something wrong. It is ok that you do not want to tell me, but please for now put it behind you and focus on the upcoming battle. I am just getting to know you, I would hate for something to happen to you before you introduce me to surfing, or I teach you how to use my staff. Focus on the events before us. Later there will be time to focus on the things behind us. I have a bad feeling about this plan of Williams, perhaps I am wrong, and I hope I am but we will all need to focus on what is now ahead of us."

Trevor gave Isamu a peculiar look, then shrugged and left Jason alone. As he started to put on his exo suit, Ashley gave Isamu a slight smile, but the sacasm in her voice didn't fit. " Funny, everyone thinks I need help figuring out what needs to be done." She picked up her shoes and walked calmly from the room. but her calm was revealed to be forced when she slung the door open hard enough that the knob punched through and stuck in the sheetrock.

Jason looked acrossed at Isamu with a smirk as he pulled off his shirt. " I almost forgot what it's like. Damn I feel bad for you bud." He pulled on the top piece of his exosuit before Isamu got a good look at all his scars. " That temper is part of the reason we never worked out."

"Worked out? Why do you feel bad for me? I do not understand. I didn't mean to upset her. Sometimes I offer my opinion more than people would like."

" You honestly don't get it, do you?" Jason asked in disbelief as he connected the two sections of his suit and stood up testingly. " Are you trying to tell me that you can't see that Ash has got a thing for you?." Satified his suit was on correctly, he walked over to Isamu as he pulled on a pair of fingerless gloves.

" Let me explain okay? Ashley and I were, before she broke my back with a guardrail,.. well, we were close. and now it's eating at her that I've moved on. What she doesn't know is that Alice is the first person to show any interest in me since then and I don't have the energy to beat that into her head. so take my advice, unless you think that there is a chance that something might work out between the two of you, tell her before she lets it go to far. It'll be easier on both of you that way. Oh, and don't try the lets just be friends routine, I've seen her bite a guy for that before." He patted Isamu on the shoulder. " either way, good luck, you're gonna need it. Oh, and I'd wear something other than those pajamyas if I were you." He smirked, motioning at Isamu's Gi.

"You mean romantically? Well I never thought... I mean I didn't.... I was not even thinking in that vein. I had no idea thats what was going on. I never thought of her that way, but now that you mention it, she is pretty and very nice. She even speaks a little japanese which reminds me of home. I have never been in a romantic relationship, perhaps it could be possible. I have grown very fond of her." Isamu stops a moment to think things over before he goes any further.

Then he starts on a different topic. "These are not pajama's. The top will allow me to change without damaging my clothes. I would try to blend in more, but all my clothes is Japanese style. Do you perhaps have something that will fit ? Something that will strecth without tearing, If I change, it will need to stretch or tear into pieces."

" I guess they'll work. " Jason shrugged, before spreading his and looking down at his exosuit. " I'm not one to worry about blend into a crowd anyway. Maybe we need some flashy costumes like they wear in the comic books. How do you feel about spandex?" He looked up at Trevor standing slackjawed in the doorway, who wordlessly spun around and walked out, shaking his head.

Jason couldn't help but chuckle. " I think I finally one-uped barbeque boy. Anyways, you have to talk to Ashley before this all goes down. If only so she knows where you stand." He started to walk for the door and said over his shoulder. " If it's any concequence, she's a bit of a freak, and I don't mean the bug thing."

Isamu is a little confused over the term freak. Instead of trying to figure it out he begins looking through the house to find Ashley. When he finds her he says, "Ashley can we speak alone for a moment please. "

" That's probably not such a hot idea." Ashley replied, looking up from the table, eating again. the anger had faded from her eyes . She swallowed a mouthful. " " I've been told I need to act more professionally if I supposed to lead this group, so I apoligize for flirting, Is. I've got no excuse for taking advantage of your naivity. You're a nice guy and I don't want to ruin the beginnings of a friendship. I'm good at that, just ask Jas or Dimitri. " she scoffed the last part, taking another bite of her peach.

Isamu Simply says, "Please?" and looks at her with a concerned look in his eye.

With a disgruntled sigh, ashley nodded. " Fine, say your piece."

"Ashley I did not mean to upset you earlier when I stated you should get your fouce on what we are now tasked with. I said this because I have grown very fond of you, and would like the chance to spend more time together, and If anything happened to you, that would not be an option. I know that on many things, especially social things I am naive, and until you told me I did not know that you were flirting with me. I have greatly enjoyed talking to you and sparring with you, and spending time with you. " Isamu pauses and looks nervous.

"So today when we go fight, be careful, know I will be watching your back, and perhaps afterward we may see what comes of our relationship, That is if you are willing to put up with my naivety. OK? Know this, regardless what happens, and what you decide, I am your friend and will continue to be."

Nearly choking on a piece of the peach, Ashley looked up at Isamu. After a moment she replied in broken japanese " {Thank you. I liked that} " she grinned as she stood up and gave him a peck on the cheek. " I think your naivity is sweet. But I gotta ask, what's with the jamies?" she gave a knowing grin.
