We just have to work on your control, as soon your up to it. First thing I found that helps is to relax. If you try to force it, you'll end up driving yourself crazy."
" You know it could be worse." Ashley replied to Alice, then clammed up at the family talk. She instead drove in silence the rest of the way to the lodge, stopping next to Ty's damaged Camaro.

*the gold eyes open .. tear filled and spilling over .. 'oh god .. it hurts ... its like my bones .. owww .. are all .. ' *winces for a moment and then continues* 'i think you better step back ... its .. its gonna .. ow .. ' *controls its emerging outlong enough to make sure Dexy's safe .. and then the area erupts once agian with the electrical field .. a large dome forming over her body as it dances about in the air
*a faint whimpering can finally be heard as she looses control over it again .. and it lashes about like an angry animal .. then finally drops down to a field of about 12 inches now .. and her gasps can be heard as the fear rises. then the field surges to its full extent and instead of pulsating .. maintains itself at a steady 14 feet about her

At the cottage, William leads Alice out of the truck. "Thanks, Ashley. I need some time with Alice." He says.
William heads into the woods with Alice, away from the cottage.
"This won't be hard to say." He starts, "But, well, things were hard in the war. People dieing, people... bonding. Your grandmother and I worked a lot together, and we were rather unique. Mutants were rare in those days, so, we kind of felt a kinship." He clears his throat, and walks on a little longer.
(If this were TV, it'ld cut to a scene of two people - William, and a different-looking Alice - fighting their way out of a German-held town in France, with William's narration.)
"It happened when we were in Western France. I had just pulled her out of a hell of a town. Hell as in bad. And the fighting was heavy. We barely escaped with our lives. And, we hadn't left each other's sides for two days as we ran for Switzerland..."
(The scene would then jump from the two running through the forest of Europe to the Florida forest with the current-looking William and Alice.)
"And we didn't leave each other's side for the two days in the safe-house either." William's face looks odd. A mixture of emotion never-before really seen from the professonal.
He takes another breath. "Your grandfather eventually forgave me. That kind of thing happened a lot... the stress of the moment, being far from home. It didn't hurt that I went back to Canada shortly afterwards to help train the next team of mutant soldiers."
"All this is, of course, the long way of saying that, your mother must not have known right away, probably would never have guessed it... but... I... I think you got your healing abilities from me." He goes quiet, visibly, and mentally undure of where to go from there.

Alice smiles quietly at Ashley as William leads her into the woods feeling a bit nervous, wondering what William was going to tell her. A confused look comes over her face as she starts to ask "But how could I have gotten my healing powers from.. oh" Realization hits her and she falls quiet. The two sit in awkward silence for a few minutes before Alice shyly ventures "I guess that's part of why Gran never talked about the war." A wave of emotions crosses her face before she asks "Is there a way to find out for sure? I mean, are you posit.. I mean, to find out if we're..." Alice trails off and looks down at the ground and gently pushes a rock around with her foot as she tries to think of something relatively intelligent to say.

*two words echo in Maria's mind as the new power surges and fights to stay out in the open, resisting the need to hide frm view and dancing in all its glorious ability* "relax" .. "control" .. separate at first, and then mixing and blending .. and suddenly for the first time in her life, Maria finally understands something complex in a simple way.
*sitting up abruptly and now looking about spots Dexy standing not that far off and shuts the power off* ' relax the control .. relax to control ' *then smirks and continues ' wish i had you about when i .. well before when my other ability showed up. god i feel stupid now .. it will take more practice, but i think i kinda understand ... heh. it don't mean i'm happy with it, but i understand a bit more. so kin i ask what you do? .. your power i mean? or is that private? '
*slowly gets to the feet and feels really wet and chilled and when she looks behind her, chooses to to snicker .. 'guess i gotta wear non metal or stuff with buttons .. cause i think i fragged something on my back' .. *then turns to show that were the small metal studs or eyelets and the other small metal adornments were are just little singed spots on the jacket and back of the pants .. 'so .. no field if i'm on skates i guess ' .. *then starts to snicker*

"Oh, no." William says, finding a topic he's well versed and more comfortable with. "A refusal to discuss details is very common. As I said, fighting and killing people on a regular basis plays merry havok with the mind." He says, rather textbookly. "You'll find a lot of people tend to gloss over details, or simply never say anything, because they just cannot handle the stress of the memories. I think that was more the case with your grandmother."
William stops for a second. "Sadly, I think the best source for a paternity test would have been the good doctor. However, since she seems to have shot you, I think we'll stick with the anecdotal evidence for now."
Leaning against a tree, he says, quietly, "This is a bit of a revalation for me, too. Nothing had ever come of that one moment until now, so, it's a lot to digest."

Alice nods "Yeah, it is." She runs her hands through her hair "I don't know what I'm supposed to be feeling right now." She nods at William's mention of the doctor "I guess she'd be pretty surprised to see me, seeing as how she thinks she killed me and all." A look of fear and sadness comes over her as she says "No one's ever really tried to kill me before." 'Well, except that one other time' she thinks to herself.
A small smirk on her face appears as she asks "Should I call you Grandpa now? Or just stick with William?" A thought occurs to her as she asks "What should we tell the others?"

*suddently drops to the knees and holds the head with a sqwack of pain and then arches backward, so the face is skyward and screams out again. the pain feeling like her mind is splitting apart suddenly stops as quickly as it started, and she drops to the ground backwards, unconsious.
*in the inner recesses of her mind .. some small, dark haired and green eyed child screams out in pain as things are done to her body, and recalls the terror and the burning sensation filling the body and screaming loud and long for help and weeping for mercy and for it to all stop*

Just outside the field, Dexy squatted down, talking softly to Maria. " Stop fighting against it. Until you learn how to release it, you won't have any control. I know this is scary, but you have to do it." Dexy gives her a few minutes before stepping dangerously close to the field. " Don't make me come in there and get you, Sparks. You asked what I can do." Dexy's tentacles sprouted from her body, a pair from her wrists and a pair from her sides. They stretched to their full length of seven feet and she laid them testingly on Maria's field. Maria could feel something happening as Dexy began to drain the field. " I can absorb energy, and use it to defend myself somewhat. Now quit whimpering like a baby and pull yourself together before I absorb enough to collapse the field."
No one disturbs Alice and William as they take their quiet walk.

"No, stick with William." William says. "these days, it seems, the people that call me 'Gramps' want me dead. Having you do it would be confusing. Besides, I'm not the grandfather you grew up with, and it's been more than 60 years to boot."
William stands up and heads for the cottage. "I think we should just keep it under wraps for the time being. Nothing's really changed, except that we know more about each other. Sound fair?"

Alice nods quietly, though her face shows that the idea of having to keep this a secret isn't a pleasant one. "I guess you're right." she says "but if someone asks, I don't have to lie about it, do I?" Alice gets up and walks with Wiliam towards the cottage.

Alice nods quietly. "Ok." she replies and then she falls quiet for the rest of the walk back to the cottage. She goes to the truck and grabs her lunch and her old t-shirt. Going to her room, she changes into a blue t-shirt and folds up the t-shirt Sparks lent her and puts it onto the bed. Alice then throws the green t-shirt into the garbage and goes into the kitchen and quietly eats the rest of her lunch.

William, meanwhile, searches out Tyler and Felicia, just to see if Tyler's calm enough to talk. Also, to ponder and intervention by the sight of the licqour bottle on the end table.

It isn't hard to spot the giddyness in Tyler's eyes when Will found the pair snuggled in the living room talking lowly. They looked up at him when he came in and Ty grinned. " I'd offer you a cigar if I had any. So how does it feel to know your a grandpa?"
As Alice finishes, Trevor and Ashley come in, talking about what had happened. The two of them clam up and change the subject as they see her. Trevor takes a bottle of juice from the fridge and sits down acrossed from her. " How's it going?"
