Hello folks,
With the Marvels PBP game a pretty clear success on the board, Nightvision and myself have decided to start up a DC universe game.
System: We’re going to use Green Ronin’s Mutants and Masterminds 2nd edition, which is useful as they already have conversions for all the DC characters that we can use. As all of us, myself included, will be fairly new to the system, we’ll be learning as it goes.
The Setting: We are going the use the version of the DC universe seen in the Justice League Unlimited Cartoon, with a few minor modifications to allow as many DC characters as possible into it.
Characters:
Superman – taken (by Doc) Atom/Ray Palmer – taken (by Nightvision) Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), Batman (Bruce Wayne), Hawkgirl, Martian Manhunter – off limits
There will be no PC redundancies – meaning that if someone picks the Wally West Flash, the Barry Allen Flash, Kid Flash, Impulse, Max Mercury, etc – are off limits. If someone picks the John Stewart Green Lantern, then similar Kyle Rayner, Guy Gardner et al. will not be allowed. (However, other versions of these characters would be -- if someone has Kyle Rayner, then John Stewart Darkstar and/or Guy Gardner Warrior are fair game.)
The GM’s preferences are for existing DC characters to be used – there’s enough variety and options there for everyone – and because we are using the Animated continuity, very few of them have any long, convoluted backstory to memorize.
Otherwise, it’s pretty open.

I would say I am tentatively interested. My knowledge on the DC universe is somewhat lower than my knowledge on the Marvel universe, and *that* knowledge barely scratches the surface. I'll poke around and see if I can find a character that interests me.
Mutants and Masterminds is a D20 system is it not?

In case anyone is confused about the difference between the DCU and the DCAU, here's a Wikipedia article about it that should bring you up to speed. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DC_animated_universeJust as a place to start your character hunt.

If there is a character in the "normal" DC Universe that doesnt appear in the DC Animated Universe, can they be taken?
Also, have either of you played DC Universe Online? Ive been dying to try it, but am poor

I have not played DCU Online, but what I've heard is that it is underwhelming.

Damn, what is it with MMOs of great franchises sucking? >.>
So far I've narrowed it down to two characters Im interested in; sadly neither are actually DCAU characters, but DCU characters: Firehawk or Batgirl/Blackbat (Cassandra Cain)

Ok, I'll admit it. I'm curious. :-P I have to admit a yearning to play Hawkgirl, despite the NPC status. Wonder Woman would be cool too.

About characters that aren't DCAU characters: the DCAU offers the benefit that it eliminates most of the convoluted backstories. And any character that hasn't appeared in the DCAU can be assumed as just not having been introduced yet.

You might want to wait for the Marvel Universe Online. That one's supposed to be free, like Champions Online. The downside is that it's written by Brian Bendis.

Although I'm not a big fan of DC and know nothing of the system you propose, I'd probably give Green Arrow a try

While I like Cassandra Cain as a character arc, I think doing her backstory justice might be a bit hard given the continuity constraints.

Heh.. and here I was thinking "Ok, either I get to play the caustically fun flying girl who beats the crap out of things with her big honkin' mace or I get to play an amazon who can also fly and beat the crap out things.. or deflect things with her wrist gauntlets" ;D Plus doc should tell you about the time I had a PC imitate Wonder Woman in one of his games.

Not to mention the Lasso of Truth. On the other hand, there's this:
