"Does he know we went to war with the Frogs, Fielder?" Tori asked quietly.
The only French Canadien she had a fondness for was Marcel "Mace" Savard, the left wing of the Iron Heart Wolves. Even then, his brother Andre left the Montreal Nouveau Habitants to fight as a GB pilot. They were identical twins. She loved Marcel and hated Andre. He was le sac du douche. It was akin to a schoolgirl crush vs. a hatred of one of Quebec's top warriors. The rest were a pack of quislings.
"If Le Gros Bill don't wanna leave, why not let's use him for bait in our mousetrap?" Tori muttered while walking. She had no love for Acadians, but a man of medicine, especially in the swamp, had a valuable place. "We'll tell him to hotel alpha, let him say no, and wait 'em out and slaughter 'em when they try to snuff out tha doc. Y'all are gon' need him goin' forward. We kin rig up some traps 'round his place too, iffen y'all want. Better check them empty buildings. Could be a nest."
She continued her stalk, speaking in a conversational tone of voice that would be lost on the wind. She wanted more rats to kill.

Janxi's ears perked and twitched twice at hearing a Quebecois name. She was trained from birth to hate french canadians, but she was also giving a pass to a CS commissioned officer fraternizing with a mage. Being just 4, the FQ Civil War had simmered about as long as she had. The big cat barely knew what was up or down anymore. Next thing she knew, she'd be palling around with a titan juicer.
"Hell, all his patients are gon be back at the Marlin's camp, cuz that's where the evac is. Why hole up in a godfersaken swamp to have a clinic when all the people done gone? Damn toofless hockey gorilla! Lay off tha Pepsi!"
She gave a quick reflexory scratch behind her helmeted ear. "Not a bad idea, Smurfette, if he ain't smart 'nuff to leave."
She continued to scan the ground for tracks and monitor their progress towards Belliveau's clinic.

"We don't use our own for bait." Shep cut in sharply. " FQ or not, this doc is still Coalition and our responsibility to at least try to help.

"He ain't our own.
"Like Sasquatch said... if he ain't smart 'nuff to leave. We can lead a horse to water, but sounds like he only wants a Pepsi. He gots a choice." Like most CS soldiers, she was trained to use slurs for her enemy. He wasn't a Quebecois, he was a Frog or a Pepsi or un chien.
"'Sides, last I heard, FQ was happier wifout an emperor." She never saw combat in Iron Heart, but knew the paranoia of life with a rogue state in the next province. She also knew how to take down a glitter boy with and without Janxi. It was business. Quebec was no longer CS, even if he came to the swamp in a Deadboy kit. She'd save him because the swamp people needed a doctor, but if he was too dumb to evacuate, he could be the cheese.

"He's here with us." Martin said, factually. "He is just as much a risk from the rats and he needs our help, just like everyone else, here. Whether or not he wants it. Just like everyone else, here."
Heading towards the doctor, he adds, "I for one, respect a man who shows no fear and won't pack up and leave at the first sign of trouble."

"I think, what my esteemed colleague from the Navy is attempting to express," said Janxi with a gracious swish of her tail, "is that while she appreciates a physician's value to this community as a neighbor and a doctor, he is still a commissioned officer of a hostile nation. We haven't the authority to compel him to vacate his premises." The big cat's voice had an odd and unfamiliar accent to Martin, Nike and Kai. Gone was the redneckness of her native Lone Star inflection.
"My pragmatic partner's plan recognizes his potential to reject our suggestion to evacuate and remain in his domicile. She is merely suggesting we observe his home from concealment, and ambush the rodents at the point of their inevitable assault. After we defend his life, we can again suggest he join our trek to the Marlin Camp."
She giggled slightly, sounding like Muttley. "Respect 'em er not, there's a world of shit headin' his way. If he ain't leavin, we can at least welcome the rats when they roll up. We better haul ass or we ain't gonna be welcomin' them. They're gonna be welcomin' us!"

She kept silent on the subject but she couldnt fathom for the life of her why anyone would willingly stay out here. Some people just didnt blend well with others and chose the solitary life, but he really wasnt solitary so maybe there were other reasons.
She shrugged and continued to keep her eyes peeled for any movement.

"yeah, you're on to something there." Martin said, almost whimsically. "It's gonna be a lot of fun figuring out how to get him to leave. Well, unless an officer narcs on the fun and, orders him."
And he proceeded to lead them to the third set of huts, without further ado.

Sam nods at Shep and says, "Agreed. We're not using any of our own as bait." San looks around and says, "Now let's go see the doctor."

"We'll get people moving here, see if we can catch ...., the other Captain Fraser's group." Lt. Black said after a moment's hesitation. " Kai, the quack listens to you for some reason, you better tag along with them. We can get things moving here."
Shep looked at Sam and shrugged," This rate we're gonna have a full squad soon. Tori, Martin up front. Kai, fall in ahead of me. Janxi, you know what to do." Trask then paused after another glance at Kai, and the dropped his pack and stuffed something into it. anyone looking closely could see it was the vibrotomahawk that normally hung from his belt.

Tori watched Shep stash his melee weapon and saw something similar on Kai's belt. She wondered if Shep worried about offending an Indian by using her traditional weapon. "Redfang" certainly sounded Indian enough, and the CS didn't exactly accept vampires into its army.
On the other hand she never thought Shew would sacrifice combat capability by stashing a weapon for the sake of political correctness. Surely he had another reason.
Her gaze fell on the ghillie-suited intel trooper. She seemed to have a good physique under her uniform. Would a medical corps captain really heed advice from a corporal in the paratroopers because he was thinking with the little head instead of the big head? Humans were indeed a strange race.
She gave the new trooper a nod of respect. At least she knew how to camouflage and stalk. "Welcome to tha family, Cpl. Vampire Redfang. Lessgo save yer boyfriend."
Tori resumed her customary place out front, taking directions from Martin led the team towards Le Gros Bill's. Honestly, she hoped the rats would try an ambush. It had been too long since she killed any.

"Sure thing Lt." Kai did what she was told and felt a slight surge of adrenaline at moving ahead in the game. She took her place in front of Shep. Stalking and sneaking was indeed her specialty.
It was good thing she had a sense of humor and even had to chuckle at Tori's comment because she'd been called alot worse than a vampire in her life.
She raised a brow and looked pensive at Tori.."Vampire Redfang?" She hoped that wasnt going to stick, but she knew inevitability it would.

"Who else got red fangs? Vamps." Janxi had another Muttley-like giggle and fell into formation near enough to keep an eye on both Six and T-the-Flea. "Could be worse, I reckon, Vampirella."
Janxi, under Tori's medical care now for uncontrolled hormones looked at Kai as they got underway. "So what 'bout this here doc? He good lookin'? Gots all his teef, right?" Her tone was playful. Black put the new soldier Kai on the spot, so it was only right to make sport of her.
Out in the swamp, the mirth was gone. She was ready to kill, and saw from Tori's posture, she thought the same. During the hike, she approached Nike for a brief moment. "Roll up behind yer buddy Martin. He's right good at directions, but if T misses sumthin' out front, we don't want him walking into it."
After returning to her position near Sam, Janxi continued to concentrate on finding any tracks to show the rats might have left the last position and were moving onto Beliveau's encampment. While she knew rats were the big risk, she never forgot the swamp was still the Dinosaur Swamp, not the rat nest. Any fresh tracks, broken vegetation, droppings or any other sign of lizards, or for that matter Splugorth or Horune in the area would also be noted to Six and Shep. She would also note direction of travel, and if it was toward their next objective.

"Mouse-hungry cats have red fangs." Martin added, chuckling at the obvious omission, still guiding the group along, the large rifle easily carried on his shoulders.
