There wasn't enough left to break any necks, in fact the cats were lucky to find any pockets to clean out in the first place thanks to Shep's finishing touch. Tori sound bits of food, a couple of strange credt chips, the mangled remains of what appeared to be a Splugorth pistol and a bloodstained cloth that appeared to be some sort of pictograph map that showed the local area.
Nike knew the rats tactics from her time here, and the swarm that would be coming wouldn't need much armor with the numbers they had

"Shep? There ain't much to pick out of the grease spots. I did find what looked like some Splooge weaps, this here cash, some chow and this." She gave him the map. "I wish we could have taken maybe one alive. Maybe we could scout ourselves and snatch one?"
She studied the map with Shep, looking to see if Tim's camp was marked, familiar landmarks, and for the location of the rats' position, along with other factions, rat allies, enemies and whatever could bring down a sky lifter.
"I know they got some kinda AA, but what if we marked Tim's camp before we evaced, baited it with some goodies, just long enough to slow 'em down to ratfox the hooches. We could paint the camp or mark it with IR chemlites, then maybe called in a Tomahawk strike to shwack the whole foxin' lot of em? 'Hawks are low, slow and on you too late to react usually, and we got enough assets in the Gulf to mount a pretty good strike. If they knocked a few down, we could airburst a half-dozen and get good effect on target. I mean we could barbecue them sons of bitches while they're thinkin' they're the new landlord.
"In the alternative, we could mebbe either bait tha village, or spot em as they ingress, and call in some fast movers. A Dagger flight at high alt would be hard to detect, harder to shoot down, even with LRM's cuz of their stealth and could put a lot of ordinance on these foxers. High alt fastmovers would be well out of reach of a hocuser, too, and I doubt there are any interceptors closer than mainland 'Lantis.
Iffen we lase em, we could get good effect with minimal risk even at near danger-close range. LGB's make close air support possible even from Angels 35 or 40 (35,000 to 40,000 feet). I'd volunteer to hang back to handle tha lasing, while the rest of our personnel and the non-coms hotel alpha (haul ass). Even if command don't clear special weaps (nukes), their light armor means plasma, frags and HE-GP will put a big hurtin' on em."

Sam smirks at Tim, "And from what I hear, you're the one to thank for him being on my team. Do you have any idea of how horrible he was to work with for the longest time? Thanks so much for that." Sam says in a sarcastic tone of voice, rolling her eyes. Growing serious, Sam smiles, "The only thing I'd change is his bad habit of not wearing his helmet."
Noticing the laser flashes through the dense underbrush, Sam gesures toward it, getting Tim's attention and makes sign language gestures for them to sneak up on it quietly to see what is going on.

"Nice signal with the hot sauce, Shep," Janxi's tail swished with joy. "Yer right brave to bait a trap fer them knowin' we had to doubletime it from the evac to spring it. But ya knew we ain't gonna fail ya. Oohrah!"
She looked over to Nike and nodded. "You done right good too, and I hope yer gonna work wif us more often. Yew fit right in on tha ambush and moved like ya should. Well done." At that, she keyed her radio.
"Big Pussy to Big Sister Actual," Janxi again selected new radio handles to confuse anyone listening. She loved the "Big Pussy" moniker because someone told her a pre-rifts gangster of some repute used the nickname.
"We've recovered Beau Peeper safe and sound. Ran into six indians and dropped 'em like rain. Heavy showers expected to move through area. We recovered a map of the AO, and they look like they had Splooge weapons. Lil Whiskers has a plan, but we're RTB for now from our position. Oh, and Beau Peep wanted me to tell ya he had his hard cover on during the action, over?"
She smiled revealing her massive canine teeth. "We'd better get oscar mike. Tim said we could be overrun by thousands, and there ain't no way we can fight 'em all off. T's plan about an airstrike's got sum potential. If we can't lure them to the village or track them, I got one more idea. We could snatch a rat and force him to swallow a tracer. Rats will protect themselves first, so we tell him we're going to use him to monitor the position of the rest of his buddies. If he rats to them, they will likely kill him and cut it out. We follow him in case he runs the other way and kill him and threaten him with as much. I'll reckon two nasty cats and a sly coyote could convince him that's what will happen if he tries to run, and he'll know his own ratface brothers would gut him if they knew. If he refuses, I break one bone in his body til he says yes. They're motivated by self preservation, and don't know nuthin' about things like honor, loyalty, courage and duty, as far as I kin tell.
"Otherwise, I reckon we could discretely follow the rats, and lase them when the airstrike reaches the AO. If we could find 'em at rest back at their camp, we could bomb 'em before they get oscar mike. Me and T are both FACs (forward air controllers) and I reckon most of yew army guys know how to coordinate a strike. If they got 4,000 rats with splooge weaps, nukin' the tribe from offshore is the only way to be sure."
She took time to study the map liberated by Tori, hoping she could determine the location and number of rats, any human villages in the wake of the assault.
"Six wants us to get Eve and help with the evac. Tim's talking about everyone booking up to the Marlin Camp. I think that's awrite for civvies and such, but we're juss gon' make a trail from here to there the rats can follow and kill more humans. We can keep on retreatin' all the way to Ft. Pinnacle -people like Six's sister 'n law ain't gon be too welcome- before we have the manpower and firepower to stop thousands o'rats. An airstrike or a tomahawk volley out here in the swamp could minimize collateral damage and stop the rats before they take over the swamp, and start spreading out in huge numbers toward Lone Star. We gotta kill 'em here, or they'll be running the east from here to Lone Star to the Federation to Shemarrian Country...
"And Jin? I reckon we just chalked up six for yer runnin' body count. I aim to get s'more before I leave this here swamp."

Sam got Janxi's report as she and Tim moved towards the firefight she had seen. It only took them a few minutes to catch up, just in time for Shep to finish looking at the map. " The X on here has to be the village, the river here looks like where it snakes around and someone," he glances at Janxi with a bit of a grin," got caught in a trap. what worries me is these three rat face looking things. They could be either rat settlements or if this smudge is a arrow, it could be swarms for an invasion. don't know what the other X's are." He offered the map to Sam and Tim
Tim looked, and his heart sank," Sellements. Not all the locals live in the village. Those are small family groups, no more than 20 people each. The ones you splattered must be a recon team for the main body."
Shep ignored Tim and looked at the cats and Nike," We aren't talking a matter of if we get overrun any more. Bosslady, the shag's are right, if we don't do something to deter these rats, they are just gonna follow us out of here."

Nike frowns, her ears tipping back. "What about the family groups. We can't just leave them to the rats mercy." she growls softly. "These vermin have gotten way too big for their britches boss.. we should have done something about them before.. now it might b e too late." she adds, tone grim.
"What do you suggest? I'm all for going out to blunt their advance, or pick off their smaller teams."

"Thanks, Shep." Tori paused to show she appreciated being heard. It was still kind of a new experience for her. "Even if we got all the explosives Richardson's got, plus mine and Janxi's, plus whatever Tim's got left, we maybe could blast a few hundred of the rats. Iffen they cooperated and all stood in tha right place. We're gonna need air for this, Shep."
Tori nodded her head as Tim explained the X's were settlements. "We could evac them now, but we'd only be concentrating more humans in one place to be surrounded and killed by the rats. It's like Janx said. We evac now, we're juss leadin' em to more humans. We could slow 'em down a bit, but if they got tha numbers yew say, it's only a matter of time before they rush us and take us down, no matter how long we her-ass them. Pickin' off small teams could juss piss 'em off and force their main body to rush the village, settlements or the marlin camp even quicker. If we got tha means for an airstrike, I say we call fer one."

"We gotta get them houses emptied. It may be too late, but I ain't about to let em go without tryin," Janxi said with a sigh. "In the mean time, mebbe Tim's got some sort of guy that can hocus dinosaurs into a massive attack on the rats, or enough stuff so we kin make some nerve gas and spray 'em. We gotta inflict massive damage to make 'em think twice 'bout a massed attack against both Tim and the Marlin camp."

" Nothing quite like that," Tim said, " but I've got a Zapper.Sam, it's up to you, but sounds like your team has lots of ideas for you.
Nike knew the Zapper (new pc joining soon) Martin, and what he was capable of, so could vouch for her teammate.

"Zapper's nice, but I ain't sure that's enough against thousands of rats. We need weapons of mass destruction. But if we got a new zapper, I hope he or she can stalk, Soccertease was about as subtle as a herd of rhino-buffalo. Anyhow, Capt'n Sam, we pro'lly need that air strike."

"Hell, if Sneaker says tha zapper's awrite, then he or she's awrite with me. T-bone ain't wrong though. We're gonna need some heavy firepower. But if the rats ain't expectin' a rescue at the lone settlements, they may send small snoop and poop teams. If we got there in time, we could save some lives."

Sam shakes her head at Tim and says, "Actually, it's your call. You know the area better than I do." Sam continues, "If it's feasible, I have no problem trying to evacuate some of the smaller villages." At the mention of an air strike, Sam asks Tim, "Didn't you already try calling for air support and didn't it get shot out of the sky?"

"Air strike's different from air evac, Six. I don't mean no low, slow transports with some SAMAS flyin' as sandy escorts. I mean a flight of Dagger stealth bombers. They can evade standard detection right easy, and fly at an altitude beyond magic detection range. Even high up, if we're lasing the targets, they're gettin good effect on target, and ain't much magic gonna touch 'em. Ain't nothin' conventional gonna see 'em. And if we're really wantin' to screen their calls? We get a second flight flyin' dirty, meanin' they got LRM's on their wings. If they're a good 60 miles back, if someone lights up the first flight with radar or some kinda fire, then the second flight fires their LRM's to suppress air defense, the lead flight completes the run, then second flight follows up a few minutes later, and dumps a second load of ordinance on the target area, to eradicate any survivors. Hell, we could even distract them with a prelim strike of a salvo of tomahawks. They ain't gonna know we're there til they're foxin' dead. And we got a couple of carriers in the Gulf and their planes, even if near Pinnacle, are no more than an hour's flight from the Rat's Nest. All we gotta do is find 'em." Tori lifted off her helmet and put a 'nip in her mouth. Her golden eyes locked on Sam.
"Shootin' rats in a foxin' barrel, iffen ya ask me."

"Look, why don't we split the difference on this one. Tori's plan would probably work, but Six is right, we ain't got no clue what we're dealing with," Janxi's big green eyes looked at both her "sister" then her team leader, blinking twice, showing she wasn't meaning to confront either one.
"We all wanna look at their AA system, and whatever's brought down the rescue missions, right? Let's get a fix on the rat nest, and call in a LRM strike from a cruiser out at sea. The LRM's have the range, and smart weapons increase the likelihood of successful strikes and evading any AAA, or whatever it is they got. In the mean time, we find out exactly what it is they are doing to shoot down rescue teams. In the mean time, maybe some of Tim's people could rescue the outlying civilians. We learn about their capabilities while having a good chance of doing some damage on the rat nest, especially if we use plasma warheads. Or, in the alternative, we do the rescue, and some of Tim's people can handle the ANGLICO (air naval gunfire liaison company) work." Janxi's tail gave a patient swish.
"That way we don't risk no lives if we don't have to, and get some good intel while puttin' the rats in harm's way. Some airborne ECM offshore wouldn't hurt our chances none, neither."

"Martin's good to have at ones back, steady and skilled." Nike murmurs, keeping her voice low, mostly listening in. The idea of an air-strike on the rats seemed like a good idea, but she also knew about how previous air had been shot down. Shifting from footpaw to footpaw, she looks to Tim, head tilting a little.
