Sam sighs to herself, not really liking the position they were in. She didn't know for sure if it was hostile, however odds were that it was. Over the radio, she says quietly to the animals, "Any sign of hostiles, take them out."

"Aye aye, Six," she said in her all-but-silent voice. That was Tori's plan all along, but knowing Six had her six was reassuring.

Richardson and Shep didn't seem to notice, but both Sam and Autumn noticed behind them something was moving in the water behind them. Sam wasn't sure what it was, but Doc definitely saw a humanoid shape with a tail. Richardson soon had the problem solved as he pulled the feul filter and found it was full of dirt, practically starving the engine.
Tori, Janxi and Socrates could see what the barbarians were up to. They had stopped their advance and taken up positions in a horseshoe ambush around the squad. None of them pressed, as if they didn't know the squad was there. Socrates could see both old and new coalition armor parts amongst the ones closest to his position. Then the wind shifted again and they couldn't smell the barbarians anymore. Soc on the other hand, could smell something else (see PM)

"Hold hold hold." Socrates hissed suddenly across the comms. "New contacts. Demons on the water. We're not the targets. Hold."

Tori swung her rifle to scan the water. She looked for anything that could be out there, ignoring the barbarians at Socrates' instructions. So far, she saw nothing, but continued to scan.To better fight demons, she replaced her shotgun clip with a clip of silver rounds.
"Get out Six," Tori said quietly into her mic. "Y'all are bait for a trap!"

Sam curses under her breath and repeats Soc's last radio transmission "Copy that, Soc. Hold your fire everyone! Shep, Santiago, get your asses out of the water NOW!!" Sam then starts moving cautiously away from where she is, keeping an eye out for signs of an attack as she does.

" Copy that." Shep replied in an oddly calm tone Sam had heard from him under fire too many times. He rose from his position, and put himself between Autumn and the water," Go Doc! Go to Tori's position, I'll cover you." He had his rifle lowered along the surface of the water as he reloaded his grenade launcher. " Richardson, unless you're ready to move that tub in 30 seconds, drop the screwdriver and grab that railgun. I'm counting at least fourteen, repeat, fourteen bogies approaching on this side for sure.
From her angle, Sam knew Shep wasn't looking at the same multiple shapes approaching her position from underwater, swimming much like a crocodile with a side to side tail action, but definitely man shaped.
Tori could see what Shep saw, but it was harder to count because she was further from the water's edge.
" This is gonna suck." Shep muttered across the comm channel

Jan was trained to provide covering and suppressing fire while her allies retreated, and she decided to do just that, knowing the people on the boat needed protection, and any demon should keep the hell away from Tori's boat.
Using her optics, including polarized vision to see under the water's glare and thermals to see a hot being in the water. She scanned the water, then relied on her senses. She needed to give Shep, Autumn and Richardson a distraction. Well, nothing distracts quite like pain!
She searched the water for wakes, mud trails and anything else. She sniffed the air for demons. Janxi amended her prayer to save her team, then fired.

Tori saw Jan fire and did her best to find a target before shooting into the same part of the water. She considered it suppressive fire for effect to slow down the demon and buy the people in the boat a second or two to get off. Mainly, she wanted the big nasty to leave her boat alone. To complete the mission, they needed an intact boat and an intact team. This demon was making it tough to do either.

Socrates opted to take a chance and, learning from his xperience in the sub, fired a low-yield grenade into the river. He figured, the worst that would happen is the boat would up-end Richardson, and the rest would get wet, but anything actually in the water, would be either stuned or killed by the shockwave. Also, the barbarians would get a kick out of it. He would make a point to apologize to Richardson later.
"Fire in the water hole!" He proclaimed into his radio, as the grenade launched, for a red-neck fishing mission.

"Careful with my boat, Socrates," Tori hisses nearly silently into her radio. It was the first words she had spoken to him since at Abe's camp. The team went through a lot to get the boat, and shrapnel could hole it just as easily as the concussion could tip it and damage the engine.
If "Eve" got hurt, she was going to be pissed.

The Doctor already with gun out does fire into the water a shot into the water.
Strike - [dice=20] = 2 Damage - [dice=6][dice=6][dice=6][dice=6][dice=6][dice=6] = 22
But after that is done she aims to cover Richards. [rand=0297351508319015933947185661086698167626133783795121479435653108]

Of course Socrates was going to be as careful as possible, but if it was a choice between a quick battle against inhumans (and in this swamp, that could be pretty much anything), and further buying a second barbarian clan's allegiance, or a second-hand boat, then Eve was as much collateral damage as the fish in the river.
Rather than call a committee to discuss the issue, Socrates calmly awaited the results.
