CH 22: Rolling Thunder Kong (Mei and Kendall)

Somehow, William managed to appeal to Kendall's - and later, Mei's - sense of duty to the community and pulled them away from their evening plans to finish what they had begun.

They were being transported, late in the evening, in a large flat-bed truck. Under the tightly-strung tarp lay Rolling Thunder, the robot that was to help Kendall carry the jamming device high enough on the gleaming, silver arcology to be able to jam the bio-zombie signal.

Mei was going to be back-up while William would distract the police as needed.

The lights reflected, in turn, off the front of the truck as it drove its course, making one last wide turn and pulling to a stop about a block from the gleaming tower.

"Alright." Hoplite said in everyone's ear. "Nothing's on the scanner. Begin the op."

With that, the ropes loosened and Rolling Thunder, the giant nearly 30-foot-tall robot, stood up. He large-calibre guns conspicuously missing, to help her climb the building. "Roger." It's pilot said, picking up the jammer, and bending over to latch Kendall onto a make-shift harness strapped around the robot. "Ready to be the blond in your own Kong movie?" She asked, waiting for him to latch on.

[Dome]

Kendall grabs Mei, pulling her close with his human arm, "be safe ok. I'm looking forward to our future together," he whispers to her before leaning down and kissing her passionately.

Mei accepts the kiss and does not argue with her being backup either as she is slightly stunned and swooned by the kiss as anyone can see. As she knows that if she accepts going forward it could reveal her identity. "Good luck!" She responds back

[Dome]

Kendall looks down into her face, as he can tell she was moved by the kiss. He reaches up and touches the side of her face gently with his fingers. "You are so beautiful Mei. I am so glad I met you." He leans forward and holding her head gently he puts his forehead against hers as he continues, "if something happens to me, well I just want you to know, being with you these last few days has made me the happiest I have ever been."

Still in stunned silent she looks at him and proffers a smile. She looks happy, probably for the first full time since her mothers died.

[Dome]

Kendall's heart soars seeing her happy. He hopes that he finishes what they are there to do without problem so he can see the same look again and again. Holding her head he kisses her forehead and steps back letting his fingers trail from her neck to her cheek and down off her chin.

He checks his sidearm in the shoulder holster. He then checks the harness and straps himself in. He says, "lets get this done." He looks toward Mei again, he smiles, winks, and says, "I love you Zi Mei. I'll see you soon..." '...I hope,' he finishes in his head.

This whole thing just seemed too easy. Someone went to a lot of trouble to make these zombies and here he was only minutes away from turning on the device that will end this scheme. In his military life, when a mission started out this easy, it always made him nervous. It usually ended in clusterfuck.

Mei watches as he heads off, trying to be strong and showing her storng side but secretly worried that this may turn out really, really badly. As such she turns and answers him in the style of a movie she once saw. "Ditto!"

Turn out badly?

Kendall's climbing an arcology (look them up, this isn't the CN Tower, you know), strapped to a giant robot, with nothing but a harness and a lot of air between him and death. Oh, and the giant robot's illegal. Oh and people don't like arcologies being climbed by illegal giants robots. They have a thing about that. And surely you must have noticed the title's movie reference.

But really, how could it turn out badly? Well, for Mei, anyways.

Once strapped in, Rolling Thunder stood to its full height. "Oooga booga!" Its pilot shouted, as it started to scale the very tall building.

"Hey, Flashdance." Aegis said over the bandaidio. "Get in the air." The truck suddenly started moving. "No one can be on the ground. Hustle."

[Dome]

As they begin their assent Kendall looks down towards Mei and offers her a smile before looking up at the structure and their final goal. He says, "isn't there an easier way to do this?"

Mei assuming that aegis is talking to her jumps in the air and follows up Making sure that her disguise is still in place so she can not be identified.

"Oh, probably." Says Rolling Thunder on the radio as the robot's arms pulled itself and Kendall another 10 feet up, the legs finding a new foothold. "But, it wouldn't have this view."

"Flashdance, get cover. RT, hold." Aegis said, over the com.

Meanwhile, Mei could see why she needed to move. No sooner had she gone airborne than a police cruise did a pass on that area of the street.

[Dome]

Kendall looks around and sighs, "Yeah lets get this done. How much longer to the top?"

Mei moves out of sight ASAP and checks to make sure the mask is up. As such she continues flying up and away as quick as possible.

"Oh..." Rolling Thunder's head leaned upwards for the better view. Then down again "A little further than it is to go back down."

"All clear." Aegis said on the radio.

"Roger." And the robot started its climb.

From her high vantage point, Mei could see a patrol helicopter doing a sweep in her direction.

[Dome]

"Well come on, can't you move this bucket of bolts any faster? The sooner we get this done the sooner I can get back to Mei."
