With only six fishing cats in the CS military, the cats had a unique look. Furthermore, as a warning to others with similar notions, confirmations of termination were often passed on to team mates and family members. Janxi's mother was the infamous Demon Cat of Arkansas. Rumor had it the Army let her go back to stalking and killing juicers after the uprising. She had one of the largest body counts of any warrior in the Coalition, and made it a point to only hunt a dangerous enemy. Her two cubs were now warriors as well, and loyal, mostly, to the CS. Neither of the rogue cats had been confirmed dead, or even engaged by CS hunting parties.
It wasn't that Tori thought Soc might have shot her sister, or her partner's mother that bothered her. It was how he regarded them.
"Well, at least you can swim, and that's a good start. We saw guys in basic in Chi-Town that sank like a bag of bricks. You seem to like boats well enough. Ever think of an interservice transfer to the Navy or the Corps? You could get seadog training and get an even better view than from in here. Animals are pretty much on an even footing with humans at sea. I had a Newfoundland Jg. as a diving instructor, even. Plus, if you could make it in BUDS, you'd be trained as a SEAL."

"Hmm-hmm Mom!" said a sleepy giant cat. She slouched back against the bulkhead and was out again, purring with every snore.

The vessel plunged deeper, and the inside grew darker as the light from the surface dimmed. They were up to flank spped, which the navy cats knew was fast.
One of the crewman fiired something off in German after fifteen minues passed, causing the captain to spring from his seat. He stood over the comm station, studying the display. He looked at Capt. Fraser," We may have a problem. You should buckle your people in."

"Swell." Tori said, looking over at Janx. Hopefully, it was nothing, but at depth and speed, it was certainly something. "Seamonster, skipper?"
She made sure she had her speargun close, and secured her service rifle to her pack. With helmet close, she knew she could be called upon to leave the boat to engage whatever was out there. She also made sure she could reach her swimfins in a hurry.
"Skipper, we can man some weapon stations in here if you need, or if it's something outside, we might be able to go out and give it a welcome." Until told otherwise, Tori belted down and waited for orders from either the Skipper or from Sam.
"Hey Soc, you see anything out there?"

Socrates eyes were closed. He stretches out with his dogboy senses to see what eyes cannot see.

" No, another vessel on the surface. Everyone stay quiet, we're going to sneak past if we can." The captain said. Soc and the cats could feel the tension amongst the crew, and as Soc stretched out, he could feel just at the edge of his range there was something there, something magical.

Socrates opened his eyes and looked over at Tori. He knew Tori knew silent running. So, with gestures, he pointed to his temple, then pointed up to the surface. Then he wiggled his fingers as mages are often doing. Just in case Tori hadn't sensed the magic levels up there.
Moving to the rear quarter he pointed to sleepy Janxi for Tori to handle her and went in to warn the others.
In the rear quarter, he waved to get everyone's attention and gave the groundpounder signals for sitting silent while a threat passes.

Tori gave a simple nod. Run silent and run deep was a simple enough order. A surface contact should be easy enough to avoid and just go around. Hopefully, they weren't looking for a sub, which was akin to finding a needle in a haystack. She figured it was possibly an Atlantean ship, which she knew almost nothing about. If it was underway, there would be no chance to bomb it. Best sneak on by.
She gave her sleeping partner a mental word to wake up and keep quiet, with trouble around.

The message was all she needed to wake up. Like Tori, she got her diving gear close, and pulled out her mini-torpedo gun. She strapped in and pulled out the jerky Tori gave her on the plane earlier in the day. Her claws ripped into the bag and she took a bite, before passing it over to her partner to have a snack.
With the snack, she turned on her own telepathy, talking mentally with her partner in crime.

Tori talked briefly to her partner and began to think. A thinking Tori is a dangerous Tori.
Most skippers worth their salt would be heading to deep water to avoid damage. If this ship was on the same heading as the sub, it could be evacuating the hostages and their jailers. The sub could try to outrun it, or ambush it. The little cat had some ideas.
As seas got heavy, its sonar would be useless. Pitching and surface noise would see to that. Wire guided torps could be fired from the boat, and steered to a different heading, pop up through the thermocline layer, switch to active. They would never know who hit them or where they shot from. She would gladly explain all that to the Army guys. It would seem like Euro to them.
She was a qualified surface coxswain, and even though the biggest undersea craft she was qualified on, she was familiar with torpedo and undersea warfare from Barracuda patrols. This would work, if it had to work.
There was no way they could sink a capital ship, but a torp to the rudder, propulsion, or a few holes in the hull would slow them down and buy time... Assuming it was on the same heading.
She suspected, in this water, it would be a Splugorth ship. They had close-to-unrivaled naval superiority in the area. Their ships were fast and strong enough to either outrun the storm to Atlantis or head out to open seas. Deep down, she felt the ship was both Splugorth, and a rescue party from Atlantis.
They might could get around it. They PROBABLY couldn't outrun it. They could slow it down or it might be completely unrelated. For all T-Bone knew, it was a barge bringing back dino-carcasses to press into crude oil. It could even be the CSS J.P.! Her suspicions remained the same. She wanted to get on the hydrophone and see if she could waterfall it (compare acoustic signatures). She felt it was splugorth and related to their mission. Hampering it might not be a bad idea.
As though worked quicker than sound, she beamed her musings to Shep (addressing him by nickname for once) Sam, and the Skipper of the boat. She apologized and promised she was only sending, and not listening.

The captain spoke very quietly. " Not unless we have to. Whatever is up there, it's big."
Soc and the cats could sense the magic MUCH stronger now as they neared.

Socrates remained focused on the evil itself:

Tori didn't have nearly the psychic senses of Socrates, and was a different kind of hunter. Cats needed nature, to hear, and to see their prey to hunt their best. Still, she had a bit of the senses Socrates had and tried to reach out with them. She still believed, given the size of the ship, it was Splugorth, and likely to be the sort she would encounter at the AO. Familiarity could help later. On the other hand, she ceased her telepathy at once.
Sense psychic/magic [dice=100] 30 needed Sense supernatural beings [dice=100] 54 needed
She studied the waterfall display. Sonar wasn't her best, but she knew enough from patrol boat training to read it and maybe to identify.
Read sensors [dice=100] needs 40
At least she could identify the acoustic signature of the ship above, and knew exactly what it was, and could discern what direction it would be heading due to doppler shift. She hoped it was the Chi-Town, and feared it was a Splooge vessel.[rand=31209037062856697696102268289524751766763979901821335558267331345]

Janxi read her partner's mind because that's what they did. At least until Tori said it was time to shut down. She'd let Tori figure out who it was up there. All Janx wanted to do was blow it up. If it got close to their target, maybe, if the mission was accomplished, she could swim out and mine it back to hell.
She used what she had to feel her enemy, so like her little partner, might recognize them on second meeting. Maybe she could fight one of those bald chicks. She heard they were juicers anyhow.
Detect psychic/magic [dice=100] (30) Sense supernatural beings [dice=100] (54) [rand=639517500022235327142846374218525713795721603754559115512018752]

Tori knew the waterfall was all wrong for a CS vessel, and it didn't match the profiles of any Atlantean vessels she had seen. And the entire vessel smelled wrong to them. Like it was the magical thing they were sensing.
Soc, your sense evil detects the vessel above as well.
[Sam,autumn, Richardson, watcha doin'?]
