McCain quickly and quietly seeks out cover and watches the patrol with his rifle at the high ready.

Sam nods at Albright, letting him know she heard him. She falls back and motions for the others to do so as well, and looks for cover, waiting to see if the patrol was going to keep going and give them an opportunity to slip through.

He steps off the road and drops to his haunches using his left hand before him to balance himself against a tree.
His mind tries to figure out a way for his training to be of any help in the possible hostile engadgements that might arise between them here and the Entry Point.
"this is madness.."
He looks around and tries to find where the others have vanished too, If his helmets face mask wasn't reflective it would show an open look of puzzlement as he tries to make sense of the odd and new orders.

The patrol in the clearing continue their task at hand, which seems odd at first. They had spread out acrossed the clearing and at random intervals, they would stop and place something on the ground from a satchel each carried. Stan glanced at the others and patted the ground, then simulated an explosion with his hands before going back to watching.

Sam nods at Stan to let him know she got his message. Inwardly she sighs, knowing this is going to slow them down considerably. She continues to watch to see when the patrol leaves and quietly pulls out her map to see if there is an alternate route they can take to get to where they're going.

After ten minutes, the soldiers finished in the clearing and moved off towards the base. Stan looked back at Sam. " Your call."

Sam continues to look over the map for a few minutes. She traces a path and says "Here, this looks like an alternate way to get there that lets us bypass this field. It'll take a few minutes longer, but we should be able to make it if we're careful." Sam puts the map away and heads in that direction, hoping she wasn't leading them into an ambush

Sam nods at Stan. "We could, but it would take too long and we wouldn't finish the job we came here to do in time. We'll probably have to disarm some mines at some point though, no matter what."

Hearing the voices of two members talking he makes his way over towards them and speaks in a low tone to them.
"If the problem is only that we cannot see the mines, I may have a means to get around that.. But that would take some time to set up and prepare..."
He looks to them both but says nothing more.

"Let me make it as simple as i can, because I'm unsure of how much scientific education you have."
He looks around to ensure he's at least low enough not to have his head taken off by a stray laser blast before he continues.
"I'm sure you're at least aware that all Light is Radioactive, and as such all Lasers are focused forms of radioactivity. So by acting on this primitive scientific fact I believe it possible to Modify a Laser Beam weapon, To operate in a wider beam function to Irradiate the ground in the mine field. And the resulting effect will be simply this in theory."
He takes up a twig and makes some crude sketches in the soil to explain things as he goes
"Matter be it 'Natural' or a 'Manufactured' is able to absorb even the smallest of trace amounts of radioactivity without lasting ill effects. I mean look at most of the scanner systems they use in the Medical Bay. Anyways Radioactivity is absorbed by all matter, yet Natural Organic materials seem to absorb is quicker then Manufactured or Treated Materials."
He arches a brow from inside the helmet and looks to the Two and wonders if this has made any sense. Playing on the hunch that it was not he 'Dumbs' it down a bit more.
"Long story short, I believe i can make a laser into a Mine sniffer where we use Our standard issued radioactivity detection equipment to avoid areas which have the lowest reading"

McCain chips in, "My suggestion is that if we have some spare explosives and either a timer or remote detonator we could set some of the field to blow and use it as a distraction later if we need one or we could blow a path throught the field if we are in a hurry on the way back out."
