"You'll stay under this guy if you know what's good for you." Mary says, deciding to run after the guy that bolted, figuring it would be Gantry. With luck, the trees would run interference with the laser guns. (19 to dodge)

Laser fire tracked after her as she ran for a few minutes, but none of the shots came close. after a few minutes, it occured to her that "Gantry" was behaving oddly, matching her speed exactly to keep the same distance between them enough to stay out of sight, and following a straight line instead of veering towards the village like she knew the path did to follow the creek. Instead, he crossed the brook. Gantry's voice came acrossed her comm. " What's the matter Smith, getting too old to keep up?" There were no splashing in the background.

Frustrated, Mary TK's the guy's throat hard, like an open-handed chop there in. Watching the guy go down, she turns and runs back to the fire-fight.
"You're wasting your men, and my time." She says on her com. "Also, the 'I'm captain cool' thing really isn't winning me over. So, why don't you change your diaper and go back to your sandbox."

" Aw, don't be like that Sergeant. I thought we could kiss and make up." Gantry replied coyly. " I don't even know why you came looking for me, there's much worse offenders than a lowly deserter, and higher ranked ones around besides me."
As she got close, the was a pair of soldiers standing over Shep.They're fallen comrade was nowhere's in sight and they were talking nervously. " I don't want to kill him, he's one of us."
" So what do we do, just leave him?"
"I don't know. Maybe the LT will come back."
"I doubt it, he's only worried about his kid. You saw how bad he flipped when he found out the villagers were taken prisoner"
"Yeah." One of them nudged Shep with his foot. " Wake up old man, he didn't hit you that hard."

Yeah, I'ld like to know, too, if he'll come back, Mary thinks to herself, as she sets up a position to quietly watch and wait.

Shep finally sits up, only to be bound. " This is for your own good." One of them said as he cinched the tie straps around Shep's wrists behind his back. " It's better than the alternatives. " Shep grumbled something that Marianna was too far away to make out, but it earned him a backhand that knocked him back off his feet and only caused more grumbling.

Mary smirked, wondering just how long they would let him live, and whether or not Gantry would come and play this out. Hell... she could nail the lot of them, call them all traitors and retire somewhere nice.

" don't start with me, old man." The first soldier snapped at Shepperd, dragging him up to his feet. " Lets go, and don't try anything." forcing Shep to lead the way, the trio headed in the direction of the destroyed camp.
" Where's that sniper when I need him? " Shep sputtered, earning a shove from behind and a " Shut up and move it."

Mary smirks, and follows them in the bush, as quiet as a mouse. Pity they couldn't just be straight with me. She muses. It's like doing so would have made this any more difficult.

After a few minutes of forced march, Shep stopped and turned to his captor. " You know what,let's finish this now. Go ahead, shoot me. I did my duty long enough that if sticking my neck out once has gotten me in too deep, so be it. Come on whelps, pull the trigger!" He shouted at them defiantly."

Mary takes this opportunity to show herself. "Yes. Please. This really has been dragged out long enough. Mind you. I could do it myself." She says, levelling her rifle at Shep.

The pair whirled to face Marianna, uncertain what to do. Shep's expression didn't change. " I figured you'd be back. C'mon, finish these two and let me out of this and we'll go find the others and get out of this mess."

A few thoughts later, the chest plates of the two armed men fall to the gound, exposing their torsos. "No. I think I will have this explained to me now." She answers. "Who wants to start?"

"W..we were just following orders." One of the soldiers blerted out nervously. " That luietenant showed up with new orders to help him find some kid, and he went ballistic when he found out we'd been ordered to take Westvale."
" We just got tranferred out here a week ago, Ma'am." The other added. " We're not even sure what's going on except we got told we were to delay you by any means necessary. The Lt never said anything about you having company until we got here and found him " He thumbed over his shoulder at Shep, who was busy fidgeting against his restraints.
" Since we figured that Johnson and you were long gone, we were going to rejoin the task force."
" Task force?" Shep's jaw dropped. " You mean theirs's over a hundred soldiers out there?"
" Yes. The entire graduating class got shipped to General Sung's command."
Shep's eyes rolled to meet Marianna's, but he said nothing.

"You do, of course, realise that Sung is a traitor and a defector, right?" She asks. "Now uncuff him. He is misguided, but only a fool." She says, indicating Shep with her rifle. "Where is Gantry located?"
