Rhys' opponent nodded with a smirk, and went to retreive his weapons, returning after a short interaction with some of the onlookers. He had a holstered CP-30 as well, but carried a NG-LG6. Checking his eclips were full, he reminded " No bursts like some of your counterparts. single shots only. whenever your ready."

Sam nods at the Major. "Sounds good." She sighs, realizing for the first time how little she's slept since she found out about Tim's squad going missing. "If you'll excuse me, sir, I think I'll take your advice about getting some rest while I have the chance." Sam will salute the major before heading to her room and curling up on the bed quietly, hoping to get some rest.

Rhys nods, "I wouldn't dream of using bursts," Signaling to the person in charge of the range that hes ready he moves on as soon as the whistle (or whatever signal). Moving and firing at the targets as he lines up each shot aiming his rifle as best he can.

At the scorer's signal, the NTSET officer matched RHys' six for six at almost the same pace. The dozen or so onlookers cheered for Rhys' as one of their own and there was no doubt where their money was riding.
The NTSET dropped his rifle and drew his pistol quickly, pausing only a moment before firing in rapid sucession.
General Sykes returned the salute as Sam left. as she neared her room, she met Shep in the corridor. He gave a barely passible salute with a smirk as he passed, " Hey LT."

Sam returns the barely passable salute with a smirk. "Hello." is all she says in reply, continuing on to her room.

Rhys Dropped the rifle and pulls his CP-30 out and fires his shots in quick succession.
( Rolls: 11+4=15 14+4=19 20+4=24 16+4=20 11+4=15)
After Firing his shots he safeties the weapon and holsters it awaiting the Range Masters decision. Looking ot the NTSET guy, "Nice shooting."

" Yeah, but was it nice enough." The NTSET smirked as he changed eclips. " You shoot pretty good yourself for regular army." He offered a handshake, " Name's Darryl Kannons. My CO needed a vacation, so he sent me out here with you boys to get a little cross training."
The scorer finished examining the targets. He held up his hand on Kannon's side and announced, " winner." the assembled crowd voiced their disgust and Kannon's collected his winnings from them. With a handful of credits, he grinned," Tell you what, buy me a drink and we'll call it even. I took enough of those boys for a couple night's poker games."

Saam reaches her door, and it is slightly ajar. If she looks up the corridor, shep is out of sight, he must have quickened his pace after passing her.

Nodding, "Well I can buy you a drink this evening," Returning the handshake firmly. "Names Rhys O'Neill, Special Forces. So do you know what squad they attached you to for cross training Darryl?"

Sam frowns feeling puzzled, looking back in the direction that Shep had gone in and cautiously opens the door to her room a little more, peering inside wondering what prank he was trying to play on her.

To her surprise, it's not a prank. A vid disk lies on her desk, labelled Pecos patrols, and dated almost two years ago. A note was attached," Thought this would mean more to you than me." there was no signature, but it was Shep's handwriting.
*****
" not attached to anyone right now. That's the problem." Darryl replied. " Technically, I'm here to observe only, and take in any training sessions I can catch. and that kept me out of trouble for the first twenty minutes. since then, I've been bleeding your fellow troops of their paychecks anyway I can. most of the squadleaders see me as a liability, and won't consider a city boy for a field team. Kinda ticks me off."

Sam looks down at the vid disk and a ghost of a smile appears as she slips it into her vid disk player and hits play.

The video quality is poor, taken by someone's personal recorder, and the audio was scratchy. the video was of when Shep had been in her brother's squad, and a bunch of them were horsing around during some downtime in Lonestar. Tim was in alot of the shots, playing guitar, or quarterbacking a spontaneous football game in a messhall, with furniture in place for the start at least. Every clip in the twenty minute video showed him doing what he had always preached, you can be in charge without alienating yourself from the troops

Sam can't help but get misty eyed at the sight of her brother and traces her fingers over the vid. She missed him so much, and hoped he was ok wherever he was. She remembered his lectures well, and smiles sadly as she'd argued that he didn't know what it was like to be a woman in the CS. Half the squad doubted her abilities simply due to her gender, and the other half simply felt all superior officers were stupid. She had always felt it was more important to be respected than be everyone's best friend.
once the video is done playing, she curls up on her bed, the vid player beside her in her hand as she falls asleep with a small smile on her face.

Rhys nods, "I am not sure when me and the rest of the squad are getting assigned, They just called me back here and reattached me to my old squad. And it looks like we are rather short right now." *Chuckles a bit. "I will have to talk to the el-tee if we get a mission. Whats your specialty?"

" I'd appreciate that, Rhys. I guess I was brought in because of my experience dealing with inhumans. You know, hunting down monsters that threaten society. and I know a little more about urban work than you ground pounders." Darryl smirked.

As Sam dozed, the video began to replay over and over. one thing that was apparent, Shep was a different man back when he had served with her brother. Just one of the guys, and alot closer with her brother than he had admitted before.
