Jill smiled at Orton as he kissed her hand. "Oh, I see. Well, you keep interesting company."
"Interesting times." He answered back. "But, I'm sure you have many guests to see to. I won't trouble you further."
"Perhaps later?" She raised an eyebrow.
"Perhaps."
Jill turned back to the crowd.
The man who called himself Orton spun back to Hunter and Charlotte. "We haven't much time - with his original plan foiled, the Voice will either need a new target or new henchmen. We need to find out what he knows and what his plan is."
As Alex put away the hat, he could see several groups, clicques of the rich and powerful. Some of them looked at him, and he recognized the contempt and pity in their eyes as being the same as when the looked at him with the brace on.
Alex rejoined "Orton", Charlotte and the Hunter. "Anyone have any ideas on who the next target might be?"
Charlotte thought of the nervous man from Powell's company that had entered the club.

Charlotte says "I saw man from Powell's company come into the club earlier. He seemed very nervous. He could be someone we could shadow."

“See if you can find him again.” Alex suggested. “The owner has already made contact side Mr. Orton and I, so we may be being eyed already. Last thing I want is to draw attention to the two of you if I’m already suspected since we don’t know if Jill is connected or not. Besides, I’m better at being the distraction than trying to use one.”

Charlotte spots the nervous looking man from Powell's company seated at a booth. He's been wedged next to a group of tough looking guys.
The Hunter sees this as well, and notes that all 4 men are armed, but none of them look like a leader - they are toughs holding the man until the real boss arrives.
You also see what you think is a radio at the very top corner of the booth.
"Orton" tilted his head at Alex. "Don't sell yourself short; I suspect there will be plenty of opportunity to prove one's worth before the evening ends. Now; observe, look for openings - what does everyone here expect? What do they want? And what do they want to see?"

Charlotte discreetly points out where the nervous looking man from Powell's company is to the others. Looking at Orton, she listens quietly to his questions. "I've mostly worked alone. I'm not sure what to expect."

“Their boss expects trouble and believes four thugs will persuade anyone from interfering. I’m guessing under the assumption he expects regular police. Want, no trouble, get the guy to their boss. The guy, wants out, nervous. Want to see, anything but trouble, in his case he wants to see freedom.”

"Sir, unless we want to bring the house down, I'm out of my element here." Alex replied, shifting his step as the floor creaked under his weight. "Although, I could test their reactions while you three watch. What if I wander over and see how close I can get? Maybe even engage our nervous guy. If they don't want trouble, they'll just shoo me away. But, if they do, I'll cut their numbers a little out in the alley. " He suggested, very certain of his abilities..

The man calling himself Orton listened carefully to the others. "We're all new at this, so let's cooperate; use what each of us has to the best possible use. I believe our reporter friend," he looked towards Charlotte "can approach the group. That should startle them. Then perhaps, since you volunteered so graciously," he looked at Alex " will deal with the muscle, while our other friend speaks with our target." He then paused. "But...why is there a radio there? That seems most unusual, don't you think? Or perhaps they are just great fans of the Dark Rider radio drama?" He smiled.

"Umm," Alex thought for a second, "wait a minute. This guy is called the Voice right? We're thinking this all the wrong way. He's not gonna be the one at the table talking. " He looked around the room, "We need to find the folks paying way too much attention to that table, and maybe has a microphone handy. No offense, I can take care of myself if need be, but if I get in a scrap, the Voice will just slip away on us and we fail."

"Dark Rider radio drama? The tastes of fans," shrugs. "Alex, incredible idea."

The man surrounded by goons began to look even more nervous as he was producing something from his jacket pocket - it appeared to be some kind of type-written notes...
"An astute observation." The man called Orton smiled at Alex. "One our hunter friend's senses is most apt to detect....isn't it?" He raised an eyebrow at Charlotte as if challenging her.
Both Charlotte and the Hunter could hear something at the edge of their hearing range. A low hum....but it was getting louder. It was coming from the radio where the men were standing. Charlotte recognized it from her work in radio - it was a feedback loop that was going to build up quickly. But this one was bigger, somehow. A danger to everyone.

Recognizing the feedback loop, Charlotte starts looking around. That's not good.[/i] Out loud, Charlotte tells the others "I can hear a feedback loop and it's going to build up quickly. From the sound of it, it's going to be very large and very very dangerous to everyone in this place. I'll try to find it." Charlotte focuses on the feedback, trying to determine where it's coming from.

Alex nodded to Orton, then looked at Charlotte, "I don't hear anything. Could it be feedback like a microphone too close to the speakers? Uncle Lex took me to the mayor's speech last month and they had that happen. Had to move the microphone to stop the speakers from squealing."
