"I get Sarcasm. Its just hard to tell if others do so clarity is more often called for. That and Sarcasm is not something corporate types did well. I've seen promising VP and potential board members fired for less direct sarcasms. Most People can't read between lines well today and be really sensitive. Plus the last time I said a joke, or anything like that I was nearly tossed off the galaxy." he added with a shrug. That and the fact he was not so much the people person on the galaxy it was better to be in the wrong before someone over reacts.

"Your jokes were about how I was somehow going to let you die out there," Jessica sighed. "It wasn't funny."
"Drinks this way," Xerox said, leading them to the new district.
The Establishments, as the new section was being called, contained a variety of its namesakes, mostly focusing on dining out, partying and generally having a good time. It also had security.
"Weapons, please, Stephens." A security guard said.
"Doug!" Jessica said, as she pulled out a pistol and a small knife and handed them over. "This is where you ended up?"
"It's work," Security Doug answered conversationally. "Don't make it a rough day."
Jessica nodded, as she headed in.

"Your jokes were about how I was somehow going to let you die out there," Jessica sighed. "It wasn't funny." per: NyrFxl3e1d20JiC: 1d20JiC: 1d100(once inside:) " Jessica, If I didn't trust you I would have stayed on the ship." he looked at Jessica briefly after she spoke to Security Doug, " It was not commentary on your abilities. As I said if I didn't trust you or think you were qualified to keep us safe I would have stayed on the ship. I do not place my life in others hands with out careful consideration. and for the record that is a short list of people...one your on top of, Jess..the others in no particular order are my accountant, doctor, optometrist and Barber. I'll however make a note to have less of a sense humor in that regard if you feel it is a shot at your capabilities or professionalism." then he look around for people and the room to gauge it. 1d20·1d20·1d100

"Now that we have indulged you," Jessica says to Mensk. "I'm going."
And she turned to one of the rougher-looking establishments. The kind where they cultivate a dusty-worn look, with tables that can never be properly cleaned, and were never new-looking. It was playing a more metal bent than some of the others.
Foreman hadn't said much. When Jessica left he had turned to where she went, and was appraising it.
Xerox, too, was just waiting to see what happened.

"What are we waiting for? And since I'm currently your doctor, I guess I can live with being third on your list." McKenna looked at Mengsk before following along. She had no worries of anyone causing trouble, but she did not want a hangover the next day for the job interview, "Just remember we can't make a good impression from the drunk tank."

"I rarely drink prior to business." he nodded and went to where he was to meet this contact. preferring to avoid pissing anyone else off.

Thrummy McThrummer's Unique Thrumporium (Transit 01276) (Mckenna)
Inside, it was the kind of place where tables never look new, even when they are. There was a pale cloud of simulated smoke, and the smell of cheap beer. Cheap, expensive craft beer.
Mckenna could see that Jessica was already looking for a table with a view of whomever's playing.
Random Access Virtua-Entertainers (Mensk)
Mensk's contact was a man by the name of Constantin Flux: a real alpha personality, the closest you can get to Mr X. Just an equal sign away. (The econometrician in me is, of course, laughing).
A virtua-idol was dancing and presumably singing on a big screen.
RAVE was a much quieter place with customers wearing VR goggles and sitting at tables or dancing along. All but one.
Constantin stood up and waved excitedly.
"Arcturis!" He called. "Hey, over here!"

McKenna followed Jessica, trying not to react to the less than appealing establishment. "You show me all the nicest places. At least I don't stick to the floor in this one when we walk." She chuckled as she took a seat at the table they stopped at, then motioned to get a server's attention.

"Constantin Flux? Good to see you doing well." he states approaching him, "I was glad to see an offer of work. Though this sort of place does make for an odd spot to meet. But I don't mind odd..it can be a nice change to a hanger or rented office. You own this place?" he nods and asks. A business outside of working on ships might be an idea.1d20·1d20·1d100

Constantin looked around.
"What? No rent to pay here, just a couple of drinks," he explained. "Everyone's on goggles and headphones, so it's discrete enough. And besides, I'm not really an agency, so no office for me."
He took a drink.
"All I got are a couple of HRs looking for engineers," He said. "The ships are too many to sift through, and don't offer me commissions. Or most don't. Take this one." He slipped over a datapad with a company named Federate Work on it and the AA5 reference. "Some new company, but they won't go through agents. Won't even return calls. Afraid the Dominion's going to cause trouble. They all want old-school at-the-dock meetings. Even the big ships, now." He swiped the datapad to an engineering firm. "These guys are working on the long-term for the engines on the Explorer and are looking for ship engineers with deep space experience. They pay well, and it's a new kind of engine. Could be worth it. I have others, too, but they're all grounded firms."

OCC: Not to be confused with Teenage Mutant Utilitarian Turtles.
Jessica looked around.
Foreman sat down, waving for a beer. "OK, I'll chose the next one."
"We won't need to." Jessica said. "This will do."
The song paused for a second.
"Or not." She added.
People were starting to murmur and stare.
EDIT: EDIT: EDIT: DAKS, read this! They were staring, but not at them.

"Promising, I suppose they will need other crew as well." he nodded, "New engines? that could prove useful. color me interested. I do have others to consult with as well. I'll relay this to them. I do thank you for the effort and time. If you ever need help or have opportunities give me a call. Anything else of interest I should find useful on the contact? Who is the contact?" he looked and considered the implications of dealing with Constantin. He seemed to be a broker of information and a reasonable contact to a number of people not in Mengsk's immediate circle of contacts. A definite benefit to know Constantin. Much like a hermit crab to grow one had to take risks and this contact was a risk worth taking.
If the Engines were intended for the Explorer to some degree that meant advanced for sure. Even if they were prototypes to test for use on a larger scale The other thought was it was a way to get a look or a guess at the specs of the Explorer. It would certainly be interesting.

(ooc: did you really think that was necessary? LOL)
McKenna shook her head at Foreman, "Come on, this place isn't that bad."
She saw Jessica's reaction and arched a brow, "There a problem?" She turned to look what Jessica, and practically the rest of the bar, was looking at.

Three men, inappropriately dressed for the venu (pressed suits, and Dominion lapel pins), had walked in. One turned towards the trio, and pointed.
"Well," Jessica said, "That was a nice quiet evening we had for a second, there."
Foreman looked and sighed. "I am beginning to think trouble just comes looking for us, now."
The three suits made their way through the crowd, towards their table, and stopped, between them and the band.
"Let me guess," Foreman said, craning his neck to see if the view was salvageable. "You're here because... Political enlightment?"
"I'm going with old-fashioned intimidation," Jessica said, interrupting a suit before he could answer. She was prepping her knuckles. She turned to Mckenna "Doc? Thoughts?"

"I guess they would need crew on a ship like that, but they would have to put their name in." Constantin answered. "I was just looking for engineer gigs for you, that you could land quickly. As I said, for jobs on ships you just have to watch the boards. The hiring firm's called JMC Enginering. They would be connected on the other services and positions once you get inside."

"I'm just starting to think I forgot to turn off my crud magnet." McKenna replied flatly, looking at the three suits. " Take a seat boys. Preferably across the street somewheres." She looked for someone to come take their drink order, hoping is would not come down to a fight.

"Will do. They will likely put names in and I'm sure after they get spotted will be welcomed. Stay safe." he nodded. If Constantin didn't have anything further to add he nods and leaves. Constantin should have a number to reach Mengsk. If he didn't he leaves one.
JMC engineering and they were hiring outside the normal channels. This made him like the offer more or look at it as a sting operation. Either way it was one that was on the the shortlist for sure and he would check up on JMC once he could. Once out of the rave heads over to the bar the others were at. With any luck at all they were not causing trouble.1d20·1d20·1d100
