"South America - Lima is lovely this time of year." Isabella retorts as she leans against a wall next to the Rider. "As to what I'm looking for - it is an ancient Incan temple - lost in the reaches of the jungle, so they say, with a secret means of communication with the heavens. Also, gold and riches, the usual matters. Is that sufficient motivation for you?"

"It sounds interesting, but I have a couple issues." Lex spoke up. "One, we work together to keep the mafia in check in these parts, so who keeps them at bay while we are off on your adventure? Two, we have lives outside of this that people will notice we are missing if we are gone too long. And three, not to be callous, but what is in this for us to make us want to go?"

The Scarecrow silently listens and observes, far more concerned about what this "Duchess" is saying than the other heroes. After all, a magical Talisman was more than he could handle without the assistance of some monster hunting French Legionaries, and the book he learned his magic from hardly seemed to be benevolent. Such items are not to be trifled with.
He considers putting in an appearance in this meeting in person to explain to the other heroes what the stakes are, but the last time he met one it hardly went well.
Perhaps his best option is to approach the Duchess outside of his heroic identity and offer further funding and manpower for her expedition, in exchange for tagging along to do research for his stories. For extra manpower he could contact those legionaries who know the stakes and his secret identity already. Dropping Powell's name since he already knows Caleb's secret as well could probably work for meeting with the Duchess. If the other heroes get involved that would simply become icing on the cake...
A plan begins to form for The Scarecrow.

"...the heavens? Good lord...do you mean something akin to an ancient radio?...*That* I have to see, but my friend brings up a valid point, several in fact."

Vivian nods at Lex's objections and says, "I just can't disappear off the face of the earth. As Lex said, we all have people who would notice and raise an alarm. I'm also not interested in 'a secret means of communicating with the heavens' if that even exists, nor am I interested in gold and riches. I'm not doing this to get rich, I'm doing it to help people, so at this point, I'd have to say no thank you to your offer."

Isabella nods as the others speak. "I understand your concerns - from what I understand, Mr. Powell can arrange to cover your alibis - that is my arrangement with him. I have taken steps to bring in suitable, albeit temporary replacements. They are available this evening if you wish to assess them." She walks about. "Now, if the adventure or money is insufficient, then I put the question to you - what would be a suitable form or recompense? I'm handy with a pistol myself, so perhaps after this expedition, I might lend my services? Or some other resource in your efforts? Please, tell me what you desire?"

"Knowledge will do nicely."

As the dropping,of his name, Lex scowled at Vivian, but said nothing, deciding to explain the purpose of secret identities. " What we really need is a place to call home for our group when we work together, a headquarters if you will. Including place I can set up a workshop." He glanced at the others to see if any argued.

Vivian is a little confused as to why Lex is scowling at her, but remains silent as she waits for the rest of the group to answer.

Isabella raises an eyebrow at Lex's comment. "Ah, real estate, Mr....Fist? Easily done. If this expedition goes as expected, then money will not be of much matter. And knowledge?" She grins at Rex "is a passion we both share." She looks at Vivian. "And what of you, bow woman? What might sway your interest in my endeavor?"

Lex could see Vivian posture and knew her well enough to guess what was going through her mind. Just to make things a little more interesting, he spoke up," if you can assure me our absences will be covered by Mr.Powell, Both public and private, I am in."

Vivian fights the urge to scowl at Lex and says, "I cannot think of anything and I'm a little insulted you think it'll be that easy to buy my loyalty." Vivian is a little confused given that she thought they'd already worked out the real estate issue with Dark Rider, but she waits for the others to chime in. She's a bit upset that Lex would just take off on her like that, since she thought they were a team. 'Maybe I was wrong.' Vivian thinks to herself.

"Who is buying..., give us a moment, would you?" Lex said and he walked aside, hooking Vivian's arm with his own to pull her away from the others for a moment. Once they were alone, he turned his back on their Isabella and then took off his cowl, " Okay kiddo, what is the problem? I see a chance to get away and have a bit of an adventure, and you are being a stick in the mud. She said we will have a cover story, so why so up tight ?" Though it was not intentional, he had taken on the fatherly tone that came out when he was trying to understand her

Isabella takes a moment to consider Vivian's words. "I understand your concerns. Please, allow me to introduce you to the men who've agreed to supplement your efforts while you accompany me."
She claps her hands three times, and three muscular men enter the chamber. The Scarecrow immediately recognizes them.
The eldest of the trio stands a bit over six feet. He has a thick bushy beard, his long black hair braided behind him. His build is stocky and he wears a denim workman's shirt, jeans and workboots. He holds a heavy sledgehammer in his meaty hands, and a crossbow and quiver are strapped to his back (PB:14).
The youngest one is a bit shorter; he wears thick rimmed eyeglasses, his hair cut short and his angular features clean shaven (PB: 20). He wears a simple shirt, pants and boots with a beaten up leather jacket. He has a bag on his back filled with leather-bound books and dusty scrolls, and a short sword hanging on a scabbard on his left hip.
The one in the middle is the most impressive of the trio; towering over Lex even in his armor, the man is nearly six and a half feet tall and built like a circus strongman (PB: 16). He's wearing sand coloured jodphurs and a simple white T-shirt. His hair is close cropped and black as midnight. His green eyes look over the group with a thousand yard stare you've all seen on too many of the veterans of the War.
Isabella gestures to the trio. "Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce you to the Mayerts brothers; Ezekiel, Patrick, and my darling Augustus." She grins at him. "So good to know you still come when I call." She sighs. "but only when it's for business."
"Ain't got time for much else, ma'am. Lots of business to be had in these parts." Augustus responds, his smirk an indication of having dealt with Isabella's flirting in the past and not being interested.

"Let me guess. Great War service…pugilist. Archeologist specializing in the arcane…And a brawler who is adept with both ranged weapons and blunt instruments. "
